Editorial Reviews

Who is this guy? Where has this guy been? Well, to answer these questions: Kenny Seratt is one of the best pure country singers around. Kenny has had a number of national chart records, including Love And Honor, Goodbye Comes Hard For Me and Bitter End to name a few. Kenny also is an accomplished writer and wrote or co-wrote several songs on this CD. To quote Merle Haggard, who produced some of Kennys early records, ''Kenny sang like Lefty and me way before I did.''

Format: Audio CD
Country singer Kenny Seratt (also spelled Serratt), who was born somewhere in rural Arkansas in 1934, and whose nickname became "Country Kin," is a most intriguing performer who, from 1972 to 1981, put 11 songs onto the national Country charts. None were what you might call smash hits, with just one cracking the Top 40, but there is no doubt that his pure traditional Country delivery in an era when the genre was undergoing such monumental changes was recognized and respected by giants of the industry. Such as Merle Haggard with whom Kenny participated frequently on the circuit and who produced some of his early records. On August 31, 2013 that talent received the ultimate honor when he was inducted into the National Traditional Country Music Association Hall Of Fame.

His first three nationally-charting sides, all produced by Haggard - and with his named spelled "Serratt" - were: Goodbyes Come Hard For Me - # 56 in Dec 1972-Jan 1973 b/w The Man Who Picked The Wildwood Flower on MGM 14435; and in 1973, This Just Ain't No Good Day For Leavin' - # 68 in May b/w The Way I Lose My Mind on MGM 14517, and Love And Honor - # 70 in Oct-Nov b/w The Running Kind on MGM 14636 - both billed as Kenny Serratt & The Messengers. All 6 sides were included are in his only MGM LP which emerged in 1974 titled "Love And Honor" (MGM SE-4941).
