About the Author

Brenda Smith received a B.B.A. in Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University as well as an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts from Tarrant County College. She also received a Master of Arts in Professional Development from Dallas Baptist University.

For six years, she investigated libraries, foundations, and associations along with interviewing professors, teachers, counselors, and students to discover the best method to win scholarships. During the past few years, she has coordinated many searches with extraordinary outcomes for students that needed money for college. Her knowledge and techniques have helped students and parents achieve incredible financial results on their hunts for financial aid.

According to Brenda, her reason for writing The Best Kept Secrets for Winning Scholarships was that she wanted to share her secrets with students who needed financial assistance because "everyone deserves an education." The book lists several web sites to use and other books, but the tips included in the book are pretty good by themselves. It tells you how to get your scholarship applications noticed, not just how to do it. I won several awards by using the techniques so I'd definitely say it's worth it! My scholarships totalled over 10,000 dollars when you include the recurring one for the 4 years. I really like the chapters about helping students prepare for college - they have some good tips for money management. The author's style seems pretty straightforward, but it doesn't get boring since she keeps giving you so much information and places to go search for stuff. Great book!
