4.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great sound, great price - Exactly what I wanted!
It sure seems like people have an axe to grind with these 20th Century Masters "Best Of" collections. The common complaints are usually with the song selection and the album length. No matter what songs appear on a "best of" or "greatest hits" package, there's always going to be a track that gets left off that you think is one of the band's better tracks. As to the album...

1.0 out of 5 stars KISS Recycles Again - Cash In Continues
Here we have yet ANOTHER greatest hits collection from KISS. What, they didnt think they covered it well enough with Double Platinum, Smashes, Thrashes and Hits, Greatest Kiss, 4 Live albums, the Symphony album which also contains no new material, the BOX SET they released last year, etc. etc. etc. ENOUGH already! It's time for them to stop pretending they are viable and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great sound, great price - Exactly what I wanted!, August 23, 2006
This review is from: The Best of Kiss: 20th Century Masters (Millennium Collection) (Audio CD)
As to the album length - while it's true they left room for another 30 minutes worth of material, this compilation is not supposed to be some all encompassing anthology. The 20th Century Masters series serves as an introduction to the artist and their most noteworthy material. Typically that means 10-12 tracks, which obviously won't fill the entire disc.

I am exactly the type of consumer that this compilation is targeting. I'm not a serious KISS fan, but I like some of their songs. I wanted a compilation that had a good song selection and decent sound quality. There were plenty of collections to choose from, but the 20th Century Masters series provided exactly what I was looking for, and at a very reasonable price. They split the material well, so between this disc and Volume 2 (sold separately) you get a good overview of what KISS was all about. Volume 1, which covers the band's early days, features the band's best known material, digitally remastered, at about half the cost of the average CD.

For those of you die-hard KISS fans bemoaning the fact that there is yet another KISS "best of" album on the market, the answer is simple - don't buy it. Gene will no doubt survive if you don't add this disc to your collection. The Best of KISS: 20th Century Masters (volume 1) is meant as an overview for casual fans and those unfamiliar with KISS's music, and it serves that purpose well.

NOTE: This compilation is also available in eco-friendly packaging (recycled paper sleeves and trays, liner notes posted online rather than including a CD booklet), for those who prefer a "greener" approach to CD buying.

It's time for them to stop pretending they are viable and making new music and just go away already! I am a KISS fan since 1975, and they are coming to Detroit, where I live, and I have absolutely no interest in seeing them anymore. It is the same thing over and over and over and over and I am sick of being asked to cough up 100-150 dollars and get nothing different.

2.0 out of 5 stars Better Greatest Hits Available, September 5, 2003
This review is from: The Best of Kiss: 20th Century Masters (Millennium Collection) (Audio CD)
I dont own this item, and will not own this item. There are far better Greatest Hits packages to purchase for the KISS Fan. I recommend "Double Platinum", "Smashes Thrashes & Hits" or even the very latest "Very Best Of KISS". There are more songs and from a wider scope of their career.

3.0 out of 5 stars Skimpy and cost IN-effective, August 6, 2003
This review is from: The Best of Kiss: 20th Century Masters (Millennium Collection) (Audio CD)
With last year's excellent "Very Best of Kiss" with 21 remastered tracks available for 2 or 3 dollars more, who needs this skimpy and obvious collection? Resist the corporate suits that expect fans to buy anything and everything!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album Is Very Good, November 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The 20th Century Masters: The Best of Kiss Millennium Collection is a fantastic collection of the rock group Kiss's greatest hits. It may only contain twelve songs but they are the biggest songs Kiss ever recorded and unless you just want a lot of their songs on one album this particular collection should suffice. All the songs still sound great as when they were originally recorded thirty five years ago. I recommend this album to anyone who is a Kiss fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid intro to Kiss' legendary music, February 3, 2008
Kiss are legendary rockers. With their makeup and Gene Simmons' gigantic tongue, the group are considered to be one of the best rock bands of all-time. Their music is very inspirational, and it was no surprise when, in 2003, that got their own installment in UMG's 20th Century Masters series.

Check out the positives and negatives of this CD.

Positives
-ALL OF THE BIG 1970s HITS ARE HERE! 'Rock and Roll All Nite,' 'Strutter,' 'Hotter Than Hell,' 'Christine Sixteen' and 'Deuce' are all here for your listening pleasure.
-The sound quality, as always, is perfect, enhanced with 24.bit remastering.

Negatives
-I know Kiss has a 1980s and 1990s retrospective in the series, but why stop at 1979? They should maybe include 'Hide Your Heart' or perhaps 'Lick It Up.' Either of those would fit beautifully here.

This an excellent starting point. Either this or 'The Very Best of Kiss' will fit perfectly as a beginner. An excellent entry in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Recruit, December 16, 2006

This review is from: The Best of Kiss: 20th Century Masters (Millennium Collection) (Audio CD)
I guess you'd have to call me a new recruit to the KISS Army. I remember only a few songs of theirs from the past, and those only vaguely. But recently I started hearing some on my local rock station, so I bought this CD, and I must say that I like every track. If you like classic guitar rock, this is for you, because it is just loaded to the gills with a plethora of excellent guitar sounds. As for individual songs, "Beth" is a great early rock ballad, "Calling Dr. Love" is hard buzz-saw rock, and "Christeen Sixteen" is, thankfully, drenched in sex. My favorite, "I Was Made For Loving You", proves that rock can be mixed with a tasty disco flavor, just as Donna Summer's hit "Hot Stuff" showed that disco could be pumped up by rock. And of course, KISS's signature song, "Rock And Roll All Nite", is included on this disc. Now, this is not world-changing music, but it is head-bangin', so be sure to PLAY IT LOUD.
