If somehow you've found this review, then just buy this CD now!!! This is an early alternative rock gem. I thought for sure one day Gerald Collier was going to be the next Paul Westerberg after I heard this album. The first track is about Donita Sparks of L7, and it's kind of jarring, but then the rest of the album just plain rules. There is a definite Cheap Trick influence here.

"Goldfish Bowl" is straightforward raunchy rock with the Cheap Trick infusion. "Slightly Used" starts off sort of ballady. Actually, someone says "Plug that f___r in," feedback follows, then arpeggiated guitar through a Marshall amp with the lyrics, "I've got all of your postcards side by side, next to Frampton Comes Alive..." The tune then kicks in after the first verse and builds to a great crashing ending. Other great lyrics in this song: "All night parties and indecision come to your mind, second place on the Dating Game."

Next you have "Vicodine," a nice little pop-rock ditty about everyone's favorite pain killer. This one's got a great riff.

Finally, there's a version of "Hungover Together" on here that is just fantastic. You may be familiar with this song from the Supersucker's "Must've Been High" LP, but with all due respect to Kelly Deal and Eddie Spaghetti, Gerald Collier and the person he does the duet with (sorry, I don't have the CD with me as I write this) do a much better job with the vocals. One of the finest country ballads you've never heard.

This EP, along with their first single on Lucky ("Take Me Home" b/w "Start All Over") are the best things these guys put out. If you like a lot of music from 1993 (Dinosaur Jr's "Where You Been", the Fluid's "Purplemetalflakemusic") you should really dig this little prize.

Hungover together makes the whole CD worth it. My sister-in-law who lives in Seattle sent it to us. We played it at our wedding. The look on my dad's face as he danced with my brother's wife and started to understand what the song was about was priceless. Great fun song.

all hits all the time. i hate little categories and boxes but maybe Cheap Trick meets Sub Pop at it's best (beast?). hard pop guitar rock ... songs about girls and drugs and strippers and hangovers and girls in bands. it really doesn't get any better.
