Biography

During the mid-’70s, Germany’s Kraftwerk established the sonic blueprint followed by an extraordinary number of artists in the decades to come. From the British new romantic movement to hip-hop to techno, the group’s self-described “robot pop” — hypnotically minimal, obliquely rhythmic music performed solely via electronic means — resonates in virtually every new development to impact the… Read more in Amazon's Kraftwerk Store

1.0 out of 5 stars Surely you jest!?, April 22, 2000
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
"Best of Kraftwerk", hah? Uh...yeah. So if this is a 'Best of Kraftwerk" comp, where's "Autobahn"? How about "Pocket Calculator"? "Numbers"? And what about those first three albums, hm? Ohhhhh..._I_ see...this is another one of those attempts by Capitol to cash in off of the three albums KW did there, which Capitol more or less ignored until later, when they were acclaimed as these important seminal works of techno and most anything electronic-driven and dance-oriented from the mid-80s on. You're best off getting the full albums, especially for the "Radioactivity" cuts, which are much better when heard in the context Messrs Hutter, Schneider, Bartos, and Flur intended them to be heard in. And someone at EMI/Capitol MegaConHugeCorp needs a boot to the head for this title, which borders on false advertising.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1996 Re-issue of the 1993 compilation, January 1, 2001

This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Just in case you're tempted to get this, it's a re-issue of the 1993 compilation of the same name, but with new artwork. Content is presented chronologically: from the "Radio Activity" album (featured are "Geiger Counter","Radioactivity" and "Antenna"); from the "Trans-Europe Express" album come "Europe Endless", "Showroom Dummies" and "Trans-Europe Express", while "The Robots", "The Model" and "The Man-Machine" are taken from the "The Man-Machine" album. All tracks are from the regular North-American releases (not the german ones...)

4.0 out of 5 stars JAPANESE IMPORT, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
This is a Japanese Import compilation from the three "Capitol" albums. Nothing of interest unless a "hard-core" fan.
