Book Description

The reavers are swarming and this time their prey is the supreme ruler of the Templum, the Ipsissimus himself.

With Shader dead and his piece of the Statue of Eingana in the hands of Shadrak the Unseen, the threat of the Unweaving of all Creation is one step nearer.

Dr. Cadman realizes he’s in too deep and there’s nothing for it but to go on the offensive. If he’s to survive the coming war for the statue, what better allies could he have than an army of the living dead?

As Sektis Gandaw closes in and a clash of cultures threatens the land of Sahul, the philosopher Aristodeus still has ideas of his own that could decide the fate of all existence.

But with the passage to the heavenly realm of Araboth covered by the Abyss, nothing is as it should be. Aristodeus knows that even Shader’s death can be turned to his advantage; after all, it’s a long game, and he holds all the cards.

But even the best laid plans …

Best Laid Plans is the second book in the epic Shader series by D.P. Prior.

"Best Laid Plans" is the second in the 'Shader' series by author Derek Prior. This is a Kindle e-book that is a 659 Kb download and is priced at $3.99.

SPOILER (general specific details revealed)

Events in Sahul continue to spiral out of control as many people (both good and evil) try to get their hands on all 5 magical pieces of the Eingana statue. The story centers around our hero Deacon Shader who goes from being dead, to being resurrected...allowing him to continue to try to save the world from the tyrantical despot Sektis Gandaw.

1.) this intriguing tale of Deacon Shader and Ernst Cadman and their ongoing conflict with Sektis Gandaw continues.

2.) I really liked the two opposing main protagonists, Deacon Shader and Ernst Cadman...the author takes the time to show the reader their inner thoughts and concerns. Resulting in glimpses of their personal fears, hopes, insecurities and even on occasion, some subtle humor. In addition, there were some very interesting other characters as well, each with their own special 'traits'.

3.) prominent characters can be hurt of killed...adding an element of realism of this story. To me, nothing worse than a tale where the good guys are 'untouchable'.

4.) lots of action...not much down time (see Cons: 1 below)

5.) two decent global and one focused on Sahul (Australia)

6.) attractive, if not somewhat unusual cover keeping with that of the first book, 'Cadman's Gambit'.

The Cons:
1.) one of the topics at the beginning of this book dealt with the accounting of Shader's was an area that I felt was a little slow and dragged out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story July 12, 2012

this is the second volume of the Shader series and as well as the first one was done, this one takes you on a journey from page one that you don't want to get off of. I am in awe of Mr. Priors knack for creating characters that are more than two dimensional and have a purpose for what they do.
