5.0 out of 5 stars Buenissimo!
I love the mixture of songs on this CD...there are songs to dance to and songs to daydream to. I travelled to California for the first time this past summer and I bought it over there. So listening to it reminds me of my sweet sultry summer experiences and of finally being 21. Some songs which I simply worship are "Light my fire" and "Oye como Va".

The changes to the original artists' work on this album cause significant loss to the music quality. What a disappointment!

4.0 out of 5 stars First Nine Songs Are Cool, Rest Are Boring, July 30, 2003
This review is from: The Best Latin Party Album In The World...Ever! (Audio CD)
I'm pretty happy with this CD. I think the first nine songs are pretty cool and enjoy dancing to most of them. These first nine tracks have very upbeat rythms. However, the rest of the songs are older and more boring. Perhaps it's just because I'm young, but I find myself skipping through those last several tracks. To be honest, if the last 7 tracks weren't as boring, I'd give this CD a higher rating.

I think it's cool that this CD has the Austin Powers theme song (track 9, "Soula Bossa Nova") on it. Yeah baby!

I originally bought the CD for Beck's "Burro," which is the Mariachi version of "Jackass." The track is excellent... it's worth the price of the entire CD. The rest of the tunes are just an added bonus (except the annoying "Hot, Hot, Hot"). The CD is perfect for spicing up any party, whether on the dance floor, or simply as background music.

If you're one of those Latin song buffs, you might want to check this album out. It has a wide spread of Latin songs ranging from "La Bamba" to "Mas Que Nada". A good mix of ever popular songs and forgotten one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be sucked in by the title!, December 1, 2002
This review is from: The Best Latin Party Album In The World...Ever! (Audio CD)
This is not a PARTY album. That would be a collection of songs that make people want to feel festive, get up and dance, or otherwise celebrate. What this album is is a collection of popular to semi popular to rarely heard of "latin" tunes. Very few will make you want to get up and dance, or party much at all. Although there are some decent artists mixed in, the album, taken as a whole, is a yawn. This is not the "best party album in the world, ever", not even a FAIR party album. There's WAY better music out there for a party!

This /99 release by Virgin Records is a strange and eclectic mix of Latin tinged songs from around the world. It may not be the BEST Latin album but it is filled with some hard to find tunes both old and newer which are bound to find and attract listeners from many music genres, young and old.
Let's look at the tracks and their artists:
1.The Gypsy Kings lead off with their strong hit from their self titled /88 album. They hail from France.
2.Kaomoa which also hail from France are the 2nd pick with their big hit of /89 The Lambada.
3.Los Del Rio first recorded The Macarena back in /92 but it didn't hit the North American market until /95.This is the popular Bayside Boys remix of /96 sung by Carla Vanessa.Their only hit.
4.Los Umbrellos(the Umbrellas)hail from Denmark and No Tengo Dinero is their only hit also. From /97.
5.Carlinhos Brown is a Brazilian artist who released this off of his first album in /97.
6.Bellini is made up from peeps from around the world and this is their popular soccer based hit,Samba De Janeiro.
7.Tito Puente is a Puerto Rican percussion legend and he teamed with India and Cali Alerman in /96 for this remix of the hit Oye Como Va.
8.Sergio Mendes is a Brazillian artists who started out in his home country in the 50s.In 1966 he and his Brazil/66 had this hit,Mais Que Nada.
9.American musician/producer Quincy Jones released Soul Bossa Nova during that times Bossa Nova craze,in 1962.Of course Michael Myers uses it in his opening of the Austin Powers movies.
10.Cuban Mongo Santamaria released Watermelon Man in 1962 also.A nice inclusion.
11.Mexican American guitarist/singer Jose Feliciano had the hit of Light My Fire in /68.
12.The Nassau,Bahama group The Beginning of the End,had the hit Funky Nassau,Pt1. in /71.
13.The Montserrat group Arrow recorded this original version in /82.It was covered later by Buster Poindexter.
14.Mexican American Ritchie Valens hit the charts in /58 with his famous La Bamba.
15.Brazilian artist Milton Mascimento released this tune in /76.
16.American Beck released this mariachi version of his song Jack Ass,off of his /95 biggest selling Odelay album.
As I said an eclectic mix indeed and certainly some hard to find tunes all in one package by some very prominent and cool artists.Everyone will have their faves but the entire CD is,for the most part, enjoyable listening. And it is certainly a party must when you can't get anyone up to dance;throw it on and the dance floor will be packed in no time.

Most of it is dancable, but I don't think you can get up with it on Light my fire. My favorite is Funky Nassau, that cut alone is worth the price of the whole cd.
