Biography

Doing the unexpected has almost become expected of LeAnn Rimes. From her hit “Blue” nearly 15 years ago to her impressive new concept album of classic country standards, Lady & Gentlemen, LeAnn has always bravely followed her own inner compass and consistently maintained her musical integrity rather than simply following the musical trends of the day.
Listening to her instincts has resulted in… Read more in Amazon's LeAnn Rimes Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A compilation demonstrating LeAnn's diversity, April 12, 2009
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
LeAnn Rimes has had an interesting career to say the least, with some of her albums being squarely aimed at pop fans, others squarely aimed at country fans, while the rest are somewhere in between. People can make up their own minds what they like best. This compilation, based on her American greatest hits compilation but with a couple of bonus remixes, has a bit of everything from LeAnn's early years to 2003, though it focuses mainly on LeAnn`s pop music.

Country fans the world over became aware of LeAnn's talents as a result of her debut album in 1996, represented here by two tracks (Blue, One way ticket). In 1997, LeAnn recorded How do I live. Trisha Yearwood was also persuaded to record the song and her version became a number one American country hit, while making a token appearance in the British pop charts. LeAnn's version became a huge American pop hit and eventually made the top ten in the British pop charts (several months after Trisha`s version made its brief UK chart appearance). I don't think there's a lot to choose between the two versions (maybe Trisha`s version is slightly better), but both of them had a lot of success with the song in different countries. With LeAnn's version making it in the pop charts but not the country charts, this was some kind of signal that she should cater for pop fans as well as (or maybe instead of) country fans, hence LeAnn's subsequent recordings have often veered towards pop music.

In Britain, LeAnn had a number one hit with Can't fight the moonlight (from the soundtrack of Coyote ugly) and a top ten hit duet with Elton John (Written in the stars). She also came close to the top ten with two other hits (I need you, Life goes on). All of those tracks are included here, along with her minor UK hits.

This compilation provides a great introduction to LeAnn's music, though country fans may be better to seek out one of her original albums of country material. If you enjoy country music but not pop music, you'll only find about four or five tracks here to your liking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
This album is filled with beautiful songs, both upbeat (such as Can't Fight The Moonlight, Life Goes On) and romantic (Please Remember). If you are a fan of country music and enjoy really good songs, you won't be disappointed. Plus, most of the songs you probably already know and like.

Rimes has a beautiful, sensitive but also strong and full voice which makes the songs just perfect. It is truly a collection of LeAnn Rimes' best and also popular songs. It's definetely worth a listen; listen to the songs' samples and you'll see for yourselves!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Goes On, February 21, 2005
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
While I was in a hospital I used to listen to this collection. In fact I bought it when I was in a hospital. It is still one of my favourite collections because there's no actual weak tracks. I think the music is very positive and that's why good for mankind. The songs "Life Goes On", "I Need You", "We Can", "This Love", "But I Do Love You", "The Right Kind of Wrong", "You Light Up My Life" etc. are more positive than I needed to be healthy. They gave me strenght to carry on...especially the song "Life Goes On" turns me on. There's a couple of duets in this album too: "Last Thing on My Mind" with Ronan Keating and "Written in Stars" with Elton John. Both are good songs but not my favourites. The songs "Crazy" and "Blue" are the first songs she has recorded. They sound like jazz or something like that. They are great songs but not great as the other songs in this album. It's great to hear this kind of power. The songs "Can't Fight the Moonlight", "Life Goes On", "We Can", "Suddenly", "One Way Ticket (Because I Can) are enough to make me jump and dance for the joy and happiness.
Stars: Life Goes On, Can't Fight the Moonlight, You Light Up My Life, I Need You, How Do I Live
