This is early fusion Rit,

Don't be confused by the bad reviews. This CD is a compilation of songs from Rit's first two albums - First Course and Captain Fingers. It's rockier and more electric than his later "smooth jazz" outings. In fact, my only complaint is that "Space Glide" was not included. Space Glide is the first song I ever heard by Rit back in 1980 - it changed my musical direction forever.
I read one review of this on a music website in which the reviewer stated that Ritenour must even be credited as one of the forefathers of acid jazz. This is an awesome CD - but, yes, smooth jazz purists, beware.

I accidently bought this instead of the stupidly similarly named "The Very Best of Lee Ritenour". The latter is quite excellent, the former though is incredibly dull by comparison. Make sure you buy the right one.
