Great Video
This is a great video. It was way too much information to take in during a single sitting. I will be watching it many more times. Lefty gives out the wisdom that he has gathered over many many years of fishing. It reminds me of talking with my grandfather about fishing. In my experience, most fly fishers make the sport much much more complicated and expensive than...

Useful tips but slow and not quite inspiring
This video provides quite a few useful tips ranging rod and line selection, to useful fly selections for different species, to 30 second short exerpts on Lefty's personal favorite tackle items (e.g. folding canvas bass lure holder for holding large flies) and equipment fixes/hacks (e.g., adding a piece of leather on bottom of reel for an extra manual reel drag), to...

Useful tips but slow and not quite inspiring, December 22, 2006
This review is from: The Best of Lefty's Tips, Tactics & Techniques for Fly Fishing (DVD)
This video provides quite a few useful tips ranging rod and line selection, to useful fly selections for different species, to 30 second short exerpts on Lefty's personal favorite tackle items (e.g. folding canvas bass lure holder for holding large flies) and equipment fixes/hacks (e.g., adding a piece of leather on bottom of reel for an extra manual reel drag), to several casting techniques and tricks, to how to rig up the fly rod when walking between fishing spots so you won't snag up the trees. However, with that said, it is overall quite slow and monotonous with next to no on the water techniques for finding and catching fish, any fish let alone different species of fish. The only fish caught that i can remember were of smallish bass when Lefty was demostrating how to release fish, how barbless hooks won't loose fish, and how to cast around an obstacles on the stream.
So for this video, its definitely not of fish finding and catching tactics, nor does it give much inspiration of fishing the great outdoors. But, if you can survive the overall slow pace, and like to learn Lefty's special small tricks, favorite tackles, and miscellaneous knowledge from his expansive experience, then you may find this video informative and can definitely learn a few tricks from up Lefty's sleeve. As the other reviewer puts it, the video is like a father passing on his tricks of the trade...

Great Video, September 28, 2006
This review is from: The Best of Lefty's Tips, Tactics & Techniques for Fly Fishing (DVD)
This is a great video. It was way too much information to take in during a single sitting. I will be watching it many more times. Lefty gives out the wisdom that he has gathered over many many years of fishing. It reminds me of talking with my grandfather about fishing. In my experience, most fly fishers make the sport much much more complicated and expensive than necessary. Lefty makes everything simple and is very specific about what works and what doesn't. He even has a section on flies for various kinds of fishing (trout, bass, salt water, bonefish). This section gives roughly 5 flies to use for each kind of fish. In the long run, I'm sure that this section alone will save me money and help me catch more fish. The only thing I was disappointed about was that pike and muskie were not covered in the fly selection section (especially since there is a nice big pike on the video's cover).
