Leon Russel is one of the greatest musicians of his generation. The best of album is filled with great tracks that are melodic and soothing with his signature raspy voice. Some of the tracks are rather slow but after repeated listening the slower tracks true quality is unleashed. Even if you dont like all the songs on the album the first three are good enough to blow just about anything out of the water.

Leon Russell was (is) one of those little "niche" artists, who seemed to have a genre all his own. His wry, blue-collar attitude towards life clashed with the rock-and-roll box his music fit in, but that very clash made him something rare and wonderful. This collection is a nice set of his work, enough to get you interested and send you off searching for more. Recommended.

I knew this wasn't going to be a good purchase even before I put my money down. However, I'm a huge fan of Leon Russell and wanted something inexpensive to introduce a friend to the terrific music of this artist. While I have a problem with the sound quality of this CD I have a bigger problem with the fact that it only contains ten songs. Russell has a wealth of music out there and the ten songs on this CD could hardly be considered a fair or accurate representation of his "best" - sure there are some great songs here but there is so much more in his catalog that should have been included that this compilation does Leon a tremendous disservice. If you're a fan of Leon Russell I highly recommend that you check out some of the better collections available or, better still, get the original albums (now on CD) and you'll find some real treasures. Retrospective: Leon Russell is a better choice even though it only contains 18 songs. RetrospectiveMaybe Russell wasn't the biggest artist of his era but in my mind he is certainly one of the best.

some good some not so good leon has a lot of good music but only a few per album

very good music good price actually a "bargain" . Rock and Roll with just enuf Blues and soul to be a true "classic" too add to any Music collection be it country ,rock, blues or soul One of the most original combination of all 4 of any artist I have ever heard. Most of his stuff sounds just as fresh as it did 30 yrs ago not dated like a lot from that time It surely must be why the fans remember him and are happy to get this for the replacement for their worn out or lost versions double for your trouble Leon Russell. Real nitty gritty American Music. Love the cover on this CD This IS what a "HOT" Southern man looks like!!!!

back in the 70's I was so in love with this artist. I had every record he did. I didn't like this one. the quaility of the sound was so terrible and The selection of his best was not his best made me wonder why I was so gaga over him. There was so many other songs he did that were far better. I have to say I'm not a fan of this CD

I had an album of Leon Russell's years ago and it was my favorite. Finding it again on a CD was great! I couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks for the memories.

I loved the song "Tight Rope" as a kid growing up in the 1970s, so getting this affordable collection was a must. But I will say I am disappointed with the sound quality. If this CD is remastered like it claims, it falls short of today's high tech remastering quality. Heck, I've heard remasters of some 1960s songs sound so crisp when remastered with today's high quality standards (such as Eric Records' fantastic "Hard to Find 45s on CD" series). The problem with this CD is the consistency of sound quality. "Tight Rope" and "Roll Away the Stone" sound great, but other tracks sound muddy and compressed. Buyer beware.
