Another steamy installment in the annual series of lesbian erotica, this year's volume boasts a dazzling array of sexual styles and encounters, from exhibitionism to drag to dominance, in public, in prison, in all-male bath houses (?!), with custom toys, costumes, and covert arrangements. In an anthology of this nature, even the dullest of stories have their purposes, but a surprising number of the tales included here are well written and inventive. One of the best moments is from Peggy Munson's "Meeting Halfway," in which a couple makes love while a cooking show plays in the background on the television ("The inside should be tender and pink," the chef advises). Other highlights include the oaths invented by the narrator of Cecilia Tan's "Three of Cups" to appease her goddess-worshipping girlfriend ("Satan take my bicycle!") and the unplanned antics of an electronic dildo in Skian McGuire's "Remote Control." She is the author of four books and editor of eighteen anthologies, including the Lambda Literary Award-winning series Best Lesbian Erotica. Her popular Village Voice column 'Pucker Up' is nationally syndicated. what can i say about this...my copy is well-worn, and has been shared with friends. what i appreciate about this is the idea that sex is fantasy...that deep dark part of your mind where anything is possible. and then you write about it, and share it with other people. lesbianism is a political thing, that is true, there is a power in loving other women, but lesbian sex is not one-dimensional. this book made me realize that it was okay to want to have sex in a million different ways with other women. not all lesbian sex and fantasies have to be vanilla. as a result of reading this book and other erotica, i have started to write and explore the fantasy world in a much bigger way. this book celebrates women in many shapes and forms. in a time where sex can be so unhealthy, we need to cultivate forms of literature like this that encourage sexual fantasy and exploration. i would highly recommend it, and when reading this, remember not to take it too seriously. it's just fantasy. but it's very very fun...

As usual, this collection delights, but this year I was pleasantly surprised by the contribution of one Sarah F. Wisby. "The Knife Sharpener" is not only wildly erotic, but is also intelligent, well-written, and moving. Wisby's biographical info in the back of the book is scant, and I haven't read anything else she's written (but am looking forward to it!) Her writing is provocative and thoughtful, and I think she has a lot of promise as a writer.

I really like the 1998 one better. This has a mixture of mostly very strange, some are average, and just a few good stories. It's really interesting what some folks might find erotic. So if you are interested in finding out about the edges of erotic, this is a good read...
