Out of the Box: a glimpse into life's possibilities ..., November 10, 2007
This review is from: The Best Life Money Can't Buy (Paperback)
While many of us may not possess the courage, drive or self-discipline required to live the unconventional life described in this book (or maybe we just THINK we don't), we're all at least curious about what it would be like. The Best Life Money Can't Buy is actually two books in one. It is a tale of adventure that makes an excellent read in and of itself, offering the reader a glimpse into a life most only dream of. It takes the reader from a small sailboat skimming the surface of the world's vast oceans to a remote Alaskan cabin in total darkness and temperatures so low you can hear your breath freeze. It reveals moving accounts of white-knuckle terror in life-threatening circumstances at sea and in the Arctic. And it offers lyric descriptions of pure tranquility - on a tiny boat in the middle of an ocean with nothing on the horizon, a myriad of stars above and miles of ocean below.
But the book is also a factual how-to that will require some introspection on the reader`s part. While many of us preface our dreams with "If I won the lottery, I'd ...", this author - in plain words - illustrates his methods for attaining real wealth (freedom). He readily admits to the difficulties of thinking and living outside the box. And sheds light on the injustice of assigning a value to an individual based on his/her "profession."
The author's profession is living life to the fullest. Some of his zest for living can't help but rub off on the reader. I recommend this book to anyone pondering life's opportunities as well as anyone just curious about what life can be like ... outside the box.

A most needed message., February 5, 2008
This review is from: The Best Life Money Can't Buy (Paperback)
A fascinating journey from the wilds of Alaska and the Arctic regions to the tranquil tropical lagoons of the South Pacific. "The Best Life Money Can't Buy" is a must read for those who dream of a better way of life, a life of adventure and following their own bliss. I had the privelege of meeting Mr. Deering and I must say he knows what he is talking about! In a modern world where we are told that happiness is achieved through acquiring more stuff and where we have less and less free time, even though we are overwhelmed with modern conveniences, Andy Deering proves there is a better way to happiness. His thoughtful analysis of owning a home vs. renting is an eye opener and if this is the only part of the book you read then you have gotten your money's worth! I think this is a wonderful message for our time and it is very entertaining as well!

A remarkable couple doing what the rest of us dream about. We all work everyday saving for that one day, later down the road, when we also set sail for paradise, knowing full well we may never actually do it. Courage shows on nearly every page. One can only imagine the beauty of the places they have traveled with no deadlines. The rest of us spend time and money, but see far too little. We can only imagine the pleasure of watching the sites from the railing of a cruise ship or standing on the beach looking out. Along with this a dream to explore the treasures beyond reach with no boundaries going exacly where you want and staying as long as one wants. Read this book to preview the dream we all have.
