This lovely Liona Boyd album was originally released on a CBS vinyl LP in 1982, and still stands as a "Best Of" collection. For those of us who owned the LP and wore it out, the 1990 re-release on compact disc was a life-saver for our collections.

It is important to hear the earlier recordings of great artists, because it is one way to reassure yourself that the performer was great right from the start of the career. In our opinion, Liona Boyd is one of these artists. Her performances have stood the test of time among the best classical guitarists, with her intuitively romantic interpretations and flawless delivery of each and every piece. She has mastered every genre of guitar music from classical, to folk, to jazz - there is just nothing beyond her skills.

Boyd studied her art with the best of the best, Yepes, Segovia, Bream and LaGoya, then made the instrument her own with new interpretations of the classics, as well as her own unique, original compositions. Track 16 of this CD is her own charming "Cantarell", a dreamy mood piece that is a fine ending to this collection.

Our favorite on this recording is her serene, flawless rendition of Tarrega's RECUERDOS DE LA ALHAMBRA, the must-do for all classical guitarists. For us, this one recording was the signal that she truly had matured to the status of grand master - and we have purchased every one of her releases since then.

We are absolutely in love with this CD. So beautiful. Very relaxing to listen to. Would recommend it to anyone.
