5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Toadies Farewell, November 24, 2002
By A Customer
This live album was recorded May 10, 2001 in Boston, MA. Its called a "best of," merely because the 18 song set covers most of the material on the band's two major releases (Rubberneck and Hell Below/Stars Above). There are 2 "unreleased tracks" advertised on the sticker; but these are an 2 minute instrumental, "ATF," and a cover of the Pixies "Where Is My Mind." The cover is fabolous and pretty true to the original, but you won't get any new Toadies stuff here besides those two.

If you're a Toadies fan, then this is a most have. Todd Lewis' brilliant voice translates live. There's no much between song banter, its pretty much song to song. If you're new to the Toadies, then just pick up Hell Below/Stars Above for an introduction.

But for the fans, here's the songlist: Plane Crash, I Come From the Water, Heel, Quitter, Hell Below/Stars Above, Little Sin, Away, Motivational, Mr. Love, Backslider, Paper Dress, Push the Hand, ATF, Possom Kingdom, Dollskin, Tyler, I Burn, Where Is My Mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Great Live Band, January 28, 2003
By
Being a Toadies fan since "Rubberneck" and only having the chance to see them play twice, I was ecstatic to see they had released a live album. My limited live exposure to The Toadies was that of pure energy, overwhelming cohesion....and chaos. "Live From Paradise" bottles a Toadies show the best that could possibly be done.

The Toadies have only two full length albums in their catalog, so it would have been difficult for them to omit such classics as "Tyler," "Quitter," and "Dollskin." The track list from front to back truly is a "best of."

I highly recommend "Live From Paradise."

4.0 out of 5 stars Vaden Lewis (aka "Todd") has a cold, November 2, 2004
By
The Toadies are one of my favorite bands. I'm from Dallas, so they're local; I was one of the people crying in the front row at their final concert. They put on absolutely amazing live shows--and this album really doesn't do them justice at all. Vaden Lewis, the lead singer/songwriter (he went by "Todd" in the Toadies), lost his voice and sounds pretty bad in this album. Of course, the guitar work, etc., is wonderful--these are great musicians. If you can put up with a grating voice and a few microphone and recording problems, it's an awesome album. But their studio albums, Rubberneck and Hell Below, Stars Above, are better--and so is the first album by Vaden's new group, the Burden Brothers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best intro to the Toadies, January 1, 2006
By
The Toadies' studio albums are far superior to this live album. Although the music comes together okay, the vocals seem very "off" and forced, unlike the magic of a well-rehearsed Todies disc. Their most famous song is "Possum Kingdom," and the radio version is far superior to the rendition on this album.

This does truly represent a "best of" the (unfortunately) very limited career of the Toadies. This is a must-have for fans, but if you are just getting into this band, try out one of their studio albums first.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, June 11, 2003
This album is great. The band is just as good live as they are in the studio! I wish they didn't break up...the world needs more bands like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars For die-hard toadies fans!, February 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Or just fans of great nineties rock. I gave it five stars with this in mind because like many raw live albums this one has its production issues, but the spirit is there and if one wishes to hear live version of their favorite Toadies songs, this album is indispensable.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOADIES FREAKIN' ROCK!!!!!, August 10, 2010
I remmered I bought this CD cuz they covered the Pixies 'Where is my mind' back in 2003. And I LOVED the Cd. Then I got Hell below/Stars above. LOVED IT EVEN MORE. Then I went to go see the Toadies the other night in Dallas. (8-7-2010) In my last 15 years in my life I saw them for the FIRST time. EVER!!! And it was everything a Toadies fan would excpeted!! With songs like:I come from the water,Backslider,Possom Kingdom,Heel,Push the hand, etc. However,at the show they didn't play:papper dress,Where is my mind,or Qiuter. Dosen't matter--They put on one AWSOME show!!!! They are on tour right now!!! Do your self a favor and buy this album and go see them when they come to your town. They put on a FANTASTIC SHOW!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good live album, January 28, 2006
By
Aside from Vaden's dying voice, this live album is really good. A nice mixture of songs from both studio albums. I never got a chance to see Toadies live, so I can't say how the live show is. Well not yet, they are reuniting on March 11th for a show in Dallas. I have seen Burden Brothers multiple times, and I know that Vaden's voice is much more powerful then what comes across on this album. All and all still a very good live album and a must have for Toadies fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Toadies Lover, April 15, 2004

C. Poupore (Chateaugay, NY) - See all my reviews
This CD is great. "Possum Kingdom" is my all-time favorite song. The radio station I would hear it on never gave the song name or who sang it...until recently. I went right to my computer and bought "Live From Paradise". It is non-stop and energetic. Amazingly I only knew the one song but after hearing all 18 of them on this CD I also bought all of the Toadies other CD's. IF you like "Possum Kingdom" you will like this whole CD.
