This review is from: Best-Lock 450 Blocks "Box O Blox" (Toy)
I purchased the Box-o-Blox for a "lego" themed program I was doing at the library, hoping that they would be close enough to legos to use because I could not afford real legos. These lego-like bricks do work just like legos, and look the same as well, though the color and plastic type seem slightly different. They fit together well, but not completely consistently. The fit is good enough that I only marked it down one star, as it does not cause any real problems with building, just choose a different piece and keep going. My only real issue with this set is that it only has a few different sizes in the pieces. It is a very basic set of blocks. Useful to supplement other sets, but not really a complete set on its own.

We have traditionally been giving LEGO products to our children. This was a good value at the time we bought it (~1/3 price of Lego loose bricks.) These blocks are useful but I would not recommend combining them with your Lego collection (about 1mm difference in size). They work good enough by themselves with minor issues of snaptogetherness (??). If you build them with overlapping structures then they work fine. Not so as singles or doubles. When combined with Lego products the color scheme is distinguishable from normal Lego. I primarily like the Best-Lock products for their unorthodox building kits (War/Police themes). If you must have additional blocks I would recommend this as a supplement to other Best-Lock kits but not Lego. There are many negative reviews of these products as the QA is sometimes questionable but I do recommend it for a kid with lots of interest in building blocks. The flaws can be overcome with building strategies.

This is a great small set for any "Lego" beginner. It doesn't have the specialty pieces that come with Lego sets (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Prince of Persia, etc.) just good old fashioned bricks. The pieces are slightly different colors then their Lego counterparts (ie. the red is not quite as dark), and are somewhat harder to push together, but my child still has great fun. The best part is, with no preset instructions to follow, your child is forced to use their imagination. My child was a bit intimidated at first when he Looked at a big pile of bricks, but once I showed him how he could build anything he wanted, he went wild!! If you have the budget, I recommend buying several sets and combining them in a large plastic bin.
