5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sound of American Music January 2, 2001
Format:Audio CD
This was the best Glenn Miller CD I have ever listened to and I have all of them. It was a wonderful chance to hear these lost and precious recordings of an American war hero and musical prodigy. I teach band at an excellent high school that is the best in the state right now. We play all Glenn Miller and this CD has many songs I used that helped us to win state last year. It has so many technical as well as musical aspects that are not heard in any music today. I am amazed at the skill of not only Glenn Miller's conducting, but the band's skill. It's also great swing dancing music. You won't regret buying this CD, I guarantee it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Glenn Miller has EVER sounded January 7, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
GLENN MILLER * THE BEST OF THE LOST RECORDINGS AND THE SECRET BROADCASTS has the finest sound quality of any 1940s performances that you will ever encounter. Surface noise and distortion seem non-existent on these sides-- subtle tonal shading on muted trumpets and the snarl of vibrant high-hats will delight you. Crisp, pounding brass is everywhere, delicate strings as well as all background instruments can clearly be heard.

Fourteen pages of extensive liner notes, band personnel and photos are provided. Many of Miller's biggest hits are here: "In The Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," "Little Brown Jug," "A String Of Pearls," "Tuxedo Junction" and "American Patrol." There's even a cover of a song from the brand new hit Broadway musical, "Oklahoma."

Get ready to enjoy Captain Glenn Miller and his two superbly swinging military big bands as you have never experienced them before. Highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album! May 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD
When one thinks of Big Band music, one inevitably thinks of Glenn Miller (1909-1944). This CD has a large selection of Miller hits, including Tuxedo Junction, Moonlight Serenade, and I Dream of Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair. The sound is very good, really giving the album a great sound. It actually took me back to my childhood, hearing again my father's old records.

29 great tunes, means that this album is a great deal, with over an hour of listening time. I really like this album. My only complaint is that I wish the liner notes explained the titled. I mean, in which ways are these tunes "Lost Recordings & Secret Broadcasts?" Oh well, it doesn't matter much - it just matters that this is a great album!
