This is a wonderful band (featuring the totally fabulous Fay Lofsky) that takes on TV and movie material with style and good humor. It is Dutch, and very cool. Thunderbirds are go!

The Best of the Magnificent Seven,
This review is from: The Best of the Magnificent Seven (Audio CD)
It was just hilarious. CD with High intelligence! Such a tasteful selection of music (who else would think of recording Japanese Rhumba....); such a smart and tasteful interpretation; great voices (some with Japanese accent). What a lucky group finding each other and forming a band!

Some, no, many years ago, I saw the Magnificent Seven in the dutch town of Terneuzen. Their name, as an obvious reference to the film of the same name - a remake of the Japanese original - promised film music & tv-tunes.
They did not, however, come on stage dressed as 7 samoerai , but entered the theatre through the public as the seven dwarves. Another obvious reference and another promise: this was going to be fun. The members of the group all having won their spurs in dutch popmusic, was the main attraction for me. All of them musical craftsmen + 1 -woman in their own right, the choice of material was at times surprising, but the quality of their performance was amazing. Not suprisingly Henny Vrienten later got to writing film music himself. Fay Lovsky was great in Lilli Marlene and besides, several songs count af favourites. The cd is absolutely great, but shows less evidence of the fun during their concerts. Pity it's not a live-recording. Still, a testament to an era that's almost past.
