It took me a while to get my hands on a copy of The Best of Mambo by Perez Prado's Orchestra in XRCD24 (Extended Resolution CD, by JVC Japan.) For reasons beyond my comprehension, this disc is currently out of print, so I had to search and search until I found a mint used copy through Amazon.
This is a wonderful addition to any serious music lover's collection. Perez Prado was a true musical prodigy and his Orchestra is out of this world. This disc features no less than 20 of Perez Prado's greatest hits. Plus, sound quality is simply superb: JVC did a fantastic job at remastering each track from the original tapes with their K2 Technology. With the right setup, it is as if the musicians were performing live in your living room. This disc may be spun on any CD player.
Purists beware: Some of the tracks on this collection are not the original versions directed by Perez Prado himself, but more recent performances directed by his Son, Perez Prado Jr. It is somewhat annoying that one has to read the fine print to figure this out. This is the only reason why I didn't give this disc a five star rating. Still, all the music and arrangements are indeed by the main man and are performed by the Perez Prado Orchestra.
JVC: Come on! Put this disc back in production for more people to enjoy. Good stuff!!!!!
