How often does a soundtrack come along that actually contains music pretaining to the actual movie? The Best Man sountrack is conglomerence of tracks from today's most well respected artists. Hip-hop/r&b's reigning queen, Lauryn Hill teams up with the late Bob Marley on a beautifully redone track of "Turn Your Lights Down Low." Introspective and contraversial rap group The Roots start off the album with their upbeat "What You Want", and the very soulful Maxwell contributes two new tracks to the album, "Let's Not Play The Game" and "As My Girl." Though the love infused ballads and sultry r&b cuts are enough to keep the record on top, "The Best Man" has it's low points. The Sporty Theives' "Hit It Up" seems to be misplaced in the ocean of love songs, and "The Best Man I Can Be", which teams up Ginuwine, Tyrese, R.L., and Case, is a musty, ill-fated anthem for men with morality. However, "The Best Man" is able to hold it's weight and hits hard with passion and love.

In today's world of movie soundtracks, I guess the goal is to gather as many artists as possible, go in the studio and contribute a song each to make a soundtrack. The problem with this is that many of today's soundtracks sound rushed and the artist doesn't give as high quality of a performance on a soundtrack as they would do with their own album. Whoever made "The Best Man" soundtrack didn't do this. Quality performances are given by Maxwell, "Let's Not Play The Game", Eric Benet, "Poetry Girl", Kenny Lattimore, "Beautiful Girl", Faith Evans "Best Man", and Lauryn Hillw/ Bob Marley "Turn Your Lights Down Low". Beyonce from Destiny's Child, Marc Nelson, Allure and The Best Man Quartet also give quality performances. Hopefully this soundtrack will set a new standard among movie soundtracks. If you're going to pay the artists that you do to contribute songs to a soundtrack, come with the real or just leave that song in the archives somewhere.

This is a definite winner! I initially bought the album for "The Best Man I Can Be" and "Turn Your Lights Down Low", but there were SO many sweet surprises. Eric Benét, Faith Evans, The Roots, Beyoncé and Marc Nelson, Allure, and Maxwell ALL gave purchase-worthy performances. Almost all the tracks are well-written, and even those that lack the writing skills are still good because of the vocal talent. You will NOT be dissapointed. Best track: Eric Benét's "Poetry Girl"!

I enjoy this sound track so much that i have a copy for home, work and car. It gives me that calming moment that I need during the day. I JUST LOVE IT!

Can anyone tell me why "As" by Stevie Wonder is not on this soundtrack?? It's the song they play when they advertise the movie and in my opinion, the best song in the movie!!!

Well, the songs I really wanted to hear on this album are absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, the rest of the songs are just a lot of mainstream R&B junk that get boring at times.

The outstanding tracks on the album are those by The Roots, Maxwell (both tracks are awesome), Me'Shell and Lauryn Hill. I was pleasantly surprised by Eric Benet & Faith Evans' tracks.

Unfortunately, the rest I find very boring and they sound like the rest of R&B on the radio. In fact, the title track, The Best Man I Can Be (by Genuwine, Case, R.L. and Tyrese) is down-right corny. Four guys singing a love song to one another? Damn... that's weak.

But, the strong songs definitely make up for this album. The Roots and Maxwell alone are worth the price of the CD!

The last few reviewers obviously did not listen thorougly to the soundtrack. Practically every sound moved me, even the rap and this forty-something woman usually leaves that to her daughter. I guess everyone agrees Kenny Lattimore's cut was nice, and happens to be my favorite. But there are several others worth mentioning. Maxwell's "Let's Not Play the Game" was the bomb, as well as Eric Benet's "Poetry Girl", and the last track was powerful " The Best Man I Can Be" with four talented young men. This is an album that gets much play in my household. I too was at first disappointed that a remake of Stevie Wonder's "As" was not included but that omission did not take away from the album. Many of the songs pertained to the movie and that is rare these days with movie soundtracks. This is money well-spent.

I think that the Best Man soundtrack is a very good soundtrack and has a variety of music as well as artists for almost every listener.

I liked the album in general. With the Hill and Marley song by itself it is worth it. However, I believe that this CD is misleading. The one song I purchased the song for wasn't even included on the CD. This is the song you heard during all the previews of the movie. I'm sure I'm not the only person who bought this CD hoping that song was going to be on there. To no avail. Such a shame, it sounded like a great song. maxwell's tune deserves an honourable mention.

The CD overall was good but I am a little disappointed with one aspect of it.

I bought The Best Man CD thinking AS would be on it. It was in the movie and on the commercial for the movie, but not on the CD. The producers of this CD could have mentioned somewhere in the CD jacket where you could purchase AS, but since they didn't, I will.

The remake: Recorded by George Michael & Mary J. Blige AS. Can be purchased as a CD single. It has to be imported. Not available in the United States.

None-the-less, the movie was EXCELLENT!

Faith: Your song on the CD is a little daring in light of what has happened in the past, but I ain't mad at cha. In fact, it is -one- of the best songs on the whole CD.
