Amusing "Blokelit", October 12, 2009
This review is from: Best Man (Paperback)
Best Man is "Bloke Lit", the story of two best friends, one of whom is about to marry someone that everyone (except him) realises is wrong for him. Somehow his best friend has to try and stop the wedding at the same time that someone enters his own life.
Tye male leads in this are very 'blokeish", they are rich, lazy and shallow Londoners. They have a bantering relationship while maintaining very easy lives. There are some very funny one-liners and dialogue and this is very easy reading indeed. Written very much from a male perspective you can imagine this is the sort of book that would get great reviews from Maxim and FHM, but it doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It's rude, crude and leans a bit on stereotypes, but at times it is funny.
Apart from a little too much drink driving (surprisingly out of place in a book of light humour), I did quite enjoy this, no classic but it was fun.
