5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!
I love this cd if you like psychedelic rock you'll love this. It's my favorite compilation of the 13th floor elevators, especially since it includes "stand for the fire demon", a Roky Erikson song that sounds a lot like Jimi Hendrix. This is definately more raw than their other recordings, but i like that about it. The version of "i'm going to miss you" isn't a very good...

1.0 out of 5 stars Tried to hide? They should have hidden this one better:
Those looking for the raw noise of a garage band on acid should like this one as that is all that these tracks are, raw and poorly performed. Those who are looking for what they heard on the studio recordings of their first release will be very disappointed. The "Electric Jug" which was used so effectively on the band's (in studio) "You're Gonna Miss...

This is definately more raw than their other recordings, but i like that about it. The version of "i'm going to miss you" isn't a very good version but that is probably the only low point on this disc, and thats not saying much because even though its not the best version it's still high energy and interesting. A must buy for any fan of this band!!

Those who are looking for what they heard on the studio recordings of their first release will be very disappointed. The "Electric Jug" which was used so effectively on the band's (in studio) "You're Gonna Miss Me" is nothing but the equivalent of a VERY bad scratch across a vinyl album (remember those?). I wish I could say something good, but I can't. This is a disc "of rare recordings of the 13th Floor Elevators" which is one they should have left in the vault----- very, very deep in the vault, well hidden..

5.0 out of 5 stars a very positive endorsement of manicure your mind, January 4, 1999

This record is completely killer - though I am not sure how these "rare" versions of the Elevators classics differ from their studio counterparts this compilation fully blew my mind. this CD has not left my machine for a week and its working some evil routine on my brain. "let's go to the empty place!" right on!

2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: NOT WHAT 'the title' SAYS!, November 3, 2011
This review is from: Best Of: Manicure Your Mind (Audio CD)
I bought this (not on amazon) years ago & while some of the recordings/songs are not bad, these songs are NOT the original studio versions of the great 13TH Floor Elevators' classic garage-psych songs! It's a collection of alternate takes/versions with so-so sound quality. For hardcore fans this might be interesting -- but if you seek the classic (original!) Elevators recordings, look elsewhere.

Another warning: Like the great Yardbirds, the Elevators' discography is ALL-OVER-THE-PLACE with assorted "legalities."
