Soul great Roy C producing/singing with fine vocal group, February 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
An oddball CD from one of Soul's neglected greats. There are straight-up Roy C tracks on here, along with tracks he produced on Mark IV. There are some truly sublime moments, such as "My Everything You Are", which rank among the most achingly beautiful Soul music ever. But then Roy C can hardly put a foot wrong...

It's a shame.........!, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
That many, many 1st issued cds, and reissues of out of print albums onto cd, are destined to the same fate as original albums, the reality of being gone. This best of Mark IV cd, released on Ripete records (he may not remember but, Roy C actually forwarded me my copy from So. Carolina at the time, 1996, and he sounded very healthy when we spoke then). This cd, as already stated has the music of both Roy C and the group on it. That's Roy, lower middle on the cover of the cd. I must admit that I am not a big listener of "southern soul" however this cd does not present a full ambience of "below the Mason-Dixon Line" sound. The original album is a collectors item and fetches a fair price when offered for sale. Some very good music on it, and we must not forget the sought after classic "Honey, I Still Love You", great record. In most non-South locations it was challenging enough to procure the original album when it was released, album has the same cover as the cd. Not only was this very good music not easy to secure then, it is now just as difficult to secure this cd, once the limited number of copies disappeared from retail sources, what a shame! It's been 10 years now since this cd first appeared, one would hope the wherewithal exist to once again make the cd availible for consumer acquisition. Til' then, it's a shame it's not! Mark IV, their own place in a soul music collection of depth, need be reserved!

Mark IV Legacy Continues..., November 27, 2005
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
The Mark IV was a group that put out different singles, and albums until the mid 80s. Their start began in the south, and expanded into a 20+ year career. After settling in New York, performing in different venues, and developing different music projects, their songs were played on the urban station WBLS (107.5) in New York City in which, "It's a Mean World", and "Rainy Days" were their most popular hits. The Mark IV legacy continues as former tenor, Lawrence Jones, continues to be a creative and talented artist in the gospel genre by worshiping and performing, throughout the U.S., with The Mighty Newtones.
