This cd was a real disappointment, as the songs are not the original versions. Yeah, I believe that Mary Wells is singing them, but they aren't the versions we've come to love. They sound slick and new. No thanks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Motown, September 8, 2004
This review is from: Best of Mary Wells (Audio CD)
These are not the original Motown recordings and were not produced by Smokey Robinson, Berry Gordy or anybody at Motown. They are not merely re-recordings but complete re-arrangements using discofied styles and synthesisers which were simply not around in the early 1960s, and probably date from the late 1970s or 1980s.
Buy a true Mary Wells Motown compilation instead for a just tribute to a late, great artist

1.0 out of 5 stars This was a dissapointment., October 22, 2005
This review is from: Best of Mary Wells (Audio CD)
The only thing that I found on the album that was by Mary Wells is the photo on the CD cover. All songs were re-makes and dissapointing. I would not buy this CD again even if it was listed for $.01. It's not worth the shipping cost.

2.0 out of 5 stars These Are Not The Original Hits, January 22, 2011
This review is from: The Best Of Mary Wells (Audio CD)
Any true Mary Wells fan will recognize tracks 1-13 from the ill-fated recordings released on the Allegiance Record label as "The Old The New And The Very Best Of/I"m A Lady" from the early 80's. Tracks 14-17 are from the Ian Levines Motorcity record label release "Keeping My Mind On Love" which by the way were the last recordings ever made by Mary Wells. Soon aftr she learned she had cancer and it would rob her of her musical career(and her life). I am sick and tired of everybody and their mother recycling these tracks.I for one wish Motown and whomever owns the darn label now would turn around and clean out their vaults and release all the tracks they still have in the can by her(The Marvelettes also come to mind).Warner brothers has a bunch of stuff by her that has never been released either and they own the Jubilee records masters from her 2 albums. This woman was a pioneer in the early days of rock n roll. She along with the other Motown acts helped bring soul music to the pop charts and she's still not in the rock n roll hall of fame(it should be shame). Also she had more than just "My Guy" as a hit.How about The One Who Really Loves You,You Beat Me To The Punch,Two Lovers,Your Old Standby,You Lost The Sweetest Boy/What's Easy For Two Is So Hard For One(Motowns first 2 sided hit record). She hit the top 10 4 times and the top 40 many times and she had an impressive track record on the soul chart. At least in Britian they're releasing stuff like A Cellarful Of Motown with many tracks never released before. Come on America wake up and treasure your musical heritage instead of tossing it aside like yesterdays diaper!
