4.0 out of 5 stars Great Compilation...NOW OUT OF PRINT!, July 1, 2000

If you have another 'Best Of Norman Connors' CD in your collection, you may want to add this one too! In addition to the predictable songs like 'Betcha By Golly Wow', 'You are My Starship', 'Valentine Love', 'Invitation', and 'This is Your Life', you get some rare tracks including one featuring a young Glenn Jones, and a rare duet between Norman & Phyllis Hyman ('Everything I Have Is Good'). One minor problem I have with this CD is the inclusion of a 3:24 edited version of 'You Are My Starship' (The album version is 4:33 long!!!). The liner notes are nice, and the songs are presented in a chronological sequence for a change! The CD ends with another RARE Connors classic, 'I'm Your Melody', which comes from the underrated & out of print CD from 1988. To spice things up, I remastered my CD to include the full version of 'Starship', and a bonus track ('Remember Who You Are' featuring Phyllis Hyman 1993). The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the predictable songs, but they are always nice to hear. This should've been a double CD release because so much rare music was left off, and most of Connors' CDs are only available as overpriced Japanese imports. (NOTE - Also get Norman's 'Remember Who You Are', 'Easy Living', and 'Eternity' CDs! Hopefully Mr.Connors will return with a new CD in the near future!)

I heard "Invitation" on the radio one night a few months ago and I was immediately reminded of the richness and range of Adaritha's voice. This song was worth the price of the CD. You really can't miss with You Are My Starship(a classic), Valentine Love and a host of other compositions that exhibit Norman Connors ability to create enchanting musical collaborations.

Talk about dating yourself! This is one of the most back in the day cd's I have ever listened to, and yet I have to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. The music is wonderful and still holds up. The pics of the wonderful Norman Connors are a riot in this day and age. An excellent listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Norman and Friends...an excellent collection, April 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Best Of: Melancholy Fire (Audio CD)
This is the type of Best Of package artist dream of. This collection concentrates mainly on Normans years with Arista, but there are some gems from Buddah and one from Capitol.

The album includes vocals by: Phyllis, Jean, Ada Dyer, Leon Ware, The Jones Girls, Glenn Jones, Eleanor Mills, Michael Henderson and many others.

It's such a great collection. Razor & Tie did a great job putting it together..Much better than the BMG SPECIAL PRODUCTS best of.

A must for any record collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Invitation" -was in the studio., November 3, 2010
This review is from: Best Of: Melancholy Fire (Audio CD)
Great musicianship! Norman Conners is a terribly under valued producer and talent scout. I was in the studio for parts of "Invitation" and other Norman productions: Al Johnson, Ellis Hall, etc. Check out another Norman Connor's alum, Prince Philip Mitchell. Why anyone would have to search for such a great compilation is the people's loss.
