Could be Worse,
By +deV "Musak Freak" (Hellifornia, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of the Mission UK (Audio CD)
I'd recommend this cd to a fan of the older stuff who just wants to hear the songs done a little differently. This best of consists of the Missions greatest hits but remixed. What gave it away is the fact it's put out by Cleopatra who do not own the rights to the original catalog. So therefore it should be pretty easy to assume right off the bat these songs wouldn't be in the original format.
Some of these remixes are fun. The remix of Severina has a bit more bass.. the remix of Love me to Death has a slower groove to it. This isn't a bad cd whatsoever but if you're expecting the untouched originals you will be quite sad. If you're new to the Mission this isn't the cd to get. Sum and Substance would be a better start point. If you've heard it all before and want something a lil different then it's worth the 10 spot.

This is not a remix album....,
This review is from: The Best oF The Mission UK (MP3 Download)
...rather this Wayne updating his style...every one of these tracks is an original. Mr. Hussey decided to do something different and put his music through its own test of time by modifying it for today and the future. So for the previous reviewers, understand what a "remix" is before writing a review about one. These are all new and original versions of Mr. Hussey's discography.

Best of? No! Remix or reproduced? Yes!,

As another reviewer pointed out these are not the original releases. I don't know if I would consider this a pure remix as much as I would consider the songs reproduced with slight differences. If you are Mission UK fan I would actually recommend this just because they are different versions.
To me the most disappointing part of this CD is that in no way could it be considered a best of. I was turned on to Mission UK many years ago because of the "Tower of Strength" video on 120 Minutes on MTV. Any best of would definitely have to include "Tower of Strength". If you are even a marginal Goth fan I would recommend Children instead of this CD. Ironically I find that Mission UK songs stand the test of time better than Sisters Of Mercy songs and I am a big Sisters fan.
