3.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Moments: Love On a Two way street
I have been an admirer of the Moments since 1975. I have another "Greatest Hits" collection as well as the "Greatest Hits" of Ray, Goodman and Brown. The only stand-out song on this collection is the "Full-length" version of "Sexy Mama (8:52)." Rhino chooses to release the "Single" versions of most of the other songs? If I had known this in advance, I probably...

The sensuous, soulful music of this Jersey trio best known for their "Love On A Two-Way Street" punctuated the charts in the late 60's and early 70's. After changing labels, the group members became Ray, Goodman and Brown and had a brief resurgence in popularity in 1980 with "Special Lady".

In this 18-track collection from Rhino, are gathered their charted hits plus other singles and an album cut along with a Harry Ray solo track from his post-R,G and B era. As such it represents a decent overview of the Moments' Stang-label recordings and is accompanied by a comprehensive musical history of the group in the liner notes.

Sound quality is adequate considering the less than state-of-the-art recording equipment used for their earlier tunes. The first three tracks are in mono with the remaining ones in stereo. Overall, a well-constructed package and recommended for fans of the Moments' smooth soul performances.

For those interested in the later Ray, Goodman and Brown-era recordings, there is a Millennium collection now available that replaces the out-of-print greatest hits CD and serves as a worthwhile adjunct to this compilation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply One of the Best, January 6, 2005

FINALLY! All of the major hits of the Moments on one CD. Thank you, thank you, thank you! These guys are my 6th favorite all-time group (behind Blue Majic, The Delfonics, The Five Stairsteps, Esquires, and The Temprees). Everything they made "back in the day" on 45's seemed to be a "hit"! Til this day the only music I play in my SUV and at home it old school
R & B stuff like this. I have every single group you can think of, but I'd lost many of the Moments songs over the years, so it's good to be able to get them all again. "LUCKY ME, ALL I HAVE, GOTTA FIND A WAY, SUNDAY, LOVELY WAY SHE LOVES, AND "I DO" are some of my all-time favorite jams! Man, it's nice to have all these jams! It tickles me when the young folks ask me "who is that?" Then they are amazed that the old school groups sounded so good. In any event, the MOMENTS are truly MOMENTOUS!

5.0 out of 5 stars For lovers of sweet soul, NOT audiophiles, March 13, 2002

All-Platinum Studios in Enlglewood, New Jersey were not State-Of-The-Art and 30+ years on certain titles occasionally exibit exessive vocal distortion and other anomalies.
The high quality digital sound reproduction of the compact disc format can accentuate any shortcomings on the original source.

I worked at a record store and had a customer return this CD thinking it was defective because of the vocal distortion (on the early tracks only). But to clean it up would destroy the magic of this beautiful music.
That aside, This is great stuff. I grew up litening to The Moments on 8 track tapes and transistor radios as a young boy
hoping that the love they sang about would someday come true for me.
If you can get past the dated recording methods (even by 1969 standards) Your in for some sweet memories or better yet, Put this CD on the old Hi-Fi, snuggle up on the couch with your sweety and start some new memories.
A must have!

The Moments are truly one of the greatest soul groups of all time and this compilation proves it. The sweet soul trio's hits are all here; "Love on a Two Way Street", "Sexy Mama", "Not on the Outside", "Look at Me(I'm In Love)", etc. Even some of the lesser known songs are noteworthy("Come Away With Me" is one such a beautiful song)and worth checking out. If you are a fan of the Stylistics, Delfonics, or a fan of the Philly soul sound, these boys from Jersey will not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars ken, January 21, 2003

This review is from: The Best Of The Moments: Love On A Two-Way Street (Audio CD)
This disk contains the best of the Moments including the incomparable "I Do" (with the famous "Ooh Bay-Bay, Oh-ho Bay-Bay) and "A Lovely Way She Loves (with that fantastic vocal ending)." All of the early tunes (except for "Not on the Outside") had Billy Brown on lead. No one sounds like him and he can really hit some serious high notes (he still has it, by the way). Unfortunately, the disk does not contain the under-appreciated "Somebody Loves You Baby.) Still, it is a great smooth soul album from a great smooth soul group. By the way, for all you serious Moments fans, check out [website]. Let them know that there are people out there who appreciate their work.

I used to listen to that first song on a transistor radio and it sounded incredible even then. "Not On the Outside" was my first favorite as a teen and still touches me today. And the CD just goes on from there...wonderful Moments. You'll love this one!

I had the Moments tape a while back and i grew up listening to alot of the old school R&B music, but hands down, The Moments is one of the best soulfull groups ever!...My favorite songs, actually, i enjoy the whole album, but "All I Have" and "The Lovely Way She Loves", are my all time favorites.
