3.0 out of 5 stars Okay with some classics but otherwise...
Way too cute. Something like their older stuff... like the karaoke classic Daite Hold On Me and their sweet ballad Furusato are great songs... as well as Summer Night Town and Love Machine... otherwise... what are they thinking?? As much as I love the Japanese culture, there are things that are way too cute for their own good.

Morning Musume may be a curiouse group for foreigners.
Because Japanese idol genre[Jananese word/AIDORU] was born as the unique genre 30 years ago. For instance, tend to gather teenager girls, to put on showy clothes... Anyway, the genre is based on the uniqueness in Japan.

Maybe, when foreigners listen to the genre music including Mornig Musume, you may feel the experience that you have never felt, evenif good or not, one person may unlike or other person may like. The possibility that its CD will be the favoulite things for you change to extreme diffrent things. That is to say, their singing way or composer's music making way have storong characters.

Morningu Musume have many Japanese girl teenagers fans, but in addition to them, have many adult men too. The truth will be Japanese uniqueness. Foreigners can not understand the trend.

By the way, Japanese music have many beautiful melodies and sentimental sounds. The making way and sound is obviously unique and Japan only. I think that the tendency was influenced in Japanese old music(Mimyo,Douyou,Enka,Kayoukyoku etc). Most of foreigners will not have the chance that they listen to Japanese songs, but I wish that foreigners listen to Japanese songs, and that they feel the wonderfulness of Japanes songs.

By using my poor English skill, and using my many Japanese songs knowledge, I think that want to introduce many Japanese songs reviews. That is not famouse singers(Ayumi Hamasaki,Kinki Kids etc)only, I want to introduce minor and unfamouse singer but having wonderful melodies etc. In this site, many foreigners will not aware about Japanese music category. But I want to dare to introduce them.

If I say about this CD, [Morning Coffee][Ai No Tane]etc have beautiful Japanese melodies. If you like such music songs, you will have the repuirement that want to listen to Japanese idol.
In fact, Japanese idol history is very long. For instance Akina Nakamori, Siduka Kudou, Youko Minamino, Momoe Ymaguchi....

I want to introduce them as many as possible.
Especially You should care to five star reviews that I will write.

Thank you for reading poor English.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best, best album, July 5, 2001
This review is from: Best Morning Musume V.1 (Audio CD)
I am even a bigger fan of j-pop music since getting this CD. If you want to listen to high energy j-pop at its finest, then you must have this album. It has Morning Musume's best hit singles on one 15 track CD.

I personally like the high tempo of the songs "Renai Revolution 21" and "Say Yeah!" The songs have great beats and catchy lyrics, even if you don't know japanese (like me). The album is layed out well so that there's a good balance between fast paced songs like "DAI TE HOLD ON ME" and slowwer songs like "Morning Coffee." Overall, this is a great CD. And if you can't get enough of these addictive songs, you can also get CD's by MiniMoni, Puchimoni and Tanpopo. They are subgroups composed of different members of Morning Musume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brace yourself..., January 12, 2005
This review is from: Best Morning Musume V.1 (Audio CD)
Inside this little plastic packet lies loads of fun, cheesy, sometimes bizarre, but insanely catchy pop melodies from the music factory that is Japan. Sung by about 50,000 teenage girls, the effect created resembles a wall of puberty lashing out without mercy. The songs hook and dig in. The beats make feet lift in dance spasms. That is, if you let go and don't try to extract any personal intellectual or spiritual growth out of this mass of J-pop. Also included are squeals, shrieks, high-pitched piercing sounds, rap, the occassional line in english, and explosions. Everything and anything. And it all fits right into the music. After all, this music was put here for fun, not much more. So try to forgive yourself, put it on, and float in the cheese.

One of the most brain-searingly catchy songs must be "Happy Summer Wedding". The Japanese word "hai" becomes an integral part of the beat. When describing this song the word "spastic" would not be inappropriate. It may even transform the listener into a hyperactive thirteen year old girl. If that was the intention of this song, then the writers, producers, and performers pulled it off brilliantly.

Morning Musume (pronounced something like "Moose-May") dominated the J-pop scene for years. They still record, but their hegemony seems to have waned a bit. Also, a "Best of Morning Musume 2" exists, and the members of the group seem to have shifted quite a bit in the interim. Not to mention that by the time Best of 2 arrived, the group contained some 14 girls. Nearly a choir. At one time they were so big in Japan that someone tried to start a "Morning Musume" in the United States (probably not a great idea at this point). Haven't heard much from them stateside.

Anyone interested in J-Pop will at minumum find this interesting. Anyone interested in fun music will have a great time. Lastly, the lyrics in the CD book are completely in Japanese. So, if learning Nihongo is your game, here's a great place to start (after you learn the 4 or so Japanese alphabets along with more than a few Kanji, of course). Have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made me feel happy to be alive!, July 5, 2009
By
This review is from: Best Morning Musume V.1 (Audio CD)
When I first heard one of Morning Musume's J-POP group songs, I was astounded. Their music was so vibrant and energetic that it made me feel happy to be alive. Until then, I used to wonder why anyone would try to get a dozen or so beautiful high-school-age girls together to do any music. I thought that it was numerical overkill, at best, or that it was brazen marketing exploitation, at worst. But then I heard their music. I did not realize how much musical magic you could produce (given the right mix of creativity and imagination) with these dozen girls that you could not do with only a duo or even a fivesome. Their songs were cute and whimsical, gleeful and sometimes rambunctious, exhilarating and refreshing. I may start buying the rest of their CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing breeze..., September 7, 2008

I don't understand a word they are saying, as I don't know Japanese, but I still enjoy listening to them while reading a light sci-fi book or a manga. It just seems to fit when you need a breezy, light, background music to a light, breezy story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morning Musume FOREVER! :), March 16, 2005
This review is from: Best Morning Musume V.1 (Audio CD)
I'm a huge J-pop fan, and I especially like Morning Musume. I could care less if people think it's cheesy. I love it! I don't even listen to the radio anymore, as I find most western music boring in comparison. I absolutely abhor the hip-hop/rap craze that seems to be taking over the US, so this is a very good alternative.

I personally like their later stuff much more than these songs,as these tend to be a bit slower paced on the average, but these are plenty good as well, and are considered the classics.

If you want to try something new, give it a shot. I haven't met many westerners that really will sit down and listen to foreign music, but that's their loss. This group has been one of the reasons I've started learning Japanese!

If you can find their TV show Hello! Morning, check it out! It's great! :) BTW most of the girls are very cute(especially current members), despite what that MM hater thinks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Onyanko Club Cover band, June 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Best Morning Musume V.1 (Audio CD)
This whole act was already done 20 years ago. Popular Members would put out solo singles, make side group project, put out photo books, concert videos ect. Compare to Onyanko club, morning musume girls are 10X more uglier and has no singing talent whatsoever. This group also went down hill when they stated to adding more members (esp. Goto maki).

Why don't they all graduate? Onyanko club only lasted two years, break up already. All the songs are written by some 35 year old gayish guy (his own band went bankrupt) but this guy should get 5 stars for his marketing Concept and strategy. He ovbiously targeted guys with no girlfriend, i've heard that they're really popular in the U.S. Anime geeks with case of yellow fever just adore this group. They're paying $50.00 for this garbage. That is just beautiful...
