Do not buy this book expecting the same hilarious adventures of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". The same little rodent is featured, and the illustrations are excellent, but the action almost exclusively concerns the mouse's solitary baking. It is a short board book meant for the younger crowd and is entertaining, but it is strangely disjointed, particularly when one considers the fluid antics of the earlier books -- a fine introduction to the Numeroff-Bond books, but this one will not have the same staying power.

After picking up several other books by Laura Numeroff for my older son this was a natural choice for my 8 month old. She makes easy to read stories that kids just love! My little guy loves to look at the colorful pictures and actually listens to the words when we read together! It is simple enough that even my 5 year old can read it to his younger brother and he loves the book just as much! A great first book choice for baby!

Good - but not the same style of "If you give a mouse...",

If you're looking for another book like "If you give a Moose a Muffin" or "If you give a mouse a cookie" - you should know that this book is NOT written in that same style at all. There are no hilarious antics for what the mouse asks for or is reminded of next. This book was written for babies and young children, so the text is much simpler (but still clever). The illustrations are great and just what you'd expect if you've read her other popular books. This book is a wonderful way to introduce a baby or toddler to Laura's well-written series of books.

I did buy this book thinking it was going to be like the other books in the series. My 2 year old and I were both disappointed. It is a cute book, but considering my daughter was already enjoying the longer books in the series, this one was just not as entertaining.

As a BIG fan of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and If You Give a Pig a Pancake, I was thrilled to discover the Best Mouse Cookie Ever so that I could introduce my 18 month old niece to Ms. Numeroff's work. My niece isn't quite ready for the longer, more complicated stories but this book she truly adores (she points to it and says "More" everytime I put it down)! This book is as charming and delightful as all of Ms. Numeroff's others. And the illustrations by Ms. Bond are enchanting as always! I am not sure who enjoyed it more, my niece or myself!

My youngest is 2 years old and has this book memorized. He pretends to "read" it word for word including "written by Laura Numeroff, Illustrated by Felicia Bond." Excellent introduction for young children to get involved/interested in reading.

Disjointed,

Cute if only because a mouse is baking (burning) cookies.
Annoying because it feels like a few pages are missing. It's a little disjointed and non-sequiter near the end. I'm sure the publishers and author realized this but decided people would buy it anyway and forgive them because it's about a mouse who bakes(burns) cookies. Here's how it unfolds and ends: Mouse plops cookie dough on cookie sheets. Mouse is worn out from making cookie dough. Mouse falls asleep on a rug with cookies in the oven. (I guess the page where he puts them in the oven is missing) Cookies burn. Lots of smoke. Mouse throws burnt cookies out of mouse house window. Next page: "Oh well, you can never have too many cookies." with picture of Mouse eating lots of cookies in front of a massive stack of unburnt cookies. Huh? More missing pages? I thought he just threw burnt cookies out the window and had NO cookies. I'm confused. Maybe because I'm an adult and I like things to make sense. Oh well. As long as you share unburnt cookies with friends it doesn't matter how they magically appeared. The end. (Mouse is laying on his back and stuffed with cookies, crumbs all around).

My son loves this book. It is pretty simple in text. The pictures are vivid and on a white background. I read this several times a day as my son requests it daily. He especially likes the part when Mouse thinks baking is "EASY" and repeats Easy over and over.

Tonight my four year old, Grace, asked me to read this book to her. The illustrations are cute, but there is a lot of white space. This does not bother Grace though. After reading Numeroff's book to her, she said, "I like that book a lot." My seven year old was on her bunk reading another book while I was reading The Best Mouse Cookie, but she managed to chuckle as I read this story to her younger sister. The story has a great ending - but the best cookie is the one you share with a friend. Just ask Mouse. My daughter Grace now wants to make a lot of cookies just like Mouse did.

love it,
This review is from: The Best Mouse Cookie (If You Give...) (Board book)
I bought this book because my son adores the mouse in these stories and can't get enought of If you give a mouse a cookie. So with saying that when I seen that the mouse was now going to bake a cookie i thought it would be perfect to add to his collection. My son is now carrying this book around for everyone to read it to him. Good job to the auther she keeps the stories cute and simple for toddlers.
