5.0 out of 5 stars A master among the great ones!, February 5, 2007
This review is from: The Best of Nelson Rangell (Audio CD)

Conceived as one of the most prominent musicians of his generation, the vibrant sax of this gentleman is really terrific. His sound and wide dynamic range, amen of his brilliant performance as flute soloist, are firmly supported by a fine musical cast. Russ Freeman and Chuck Loeb are names that by themselves tells us something big is going on.

The selection begins with a moving theme "Turning night into day"; and the second theme is my favorite one "Time will tell" is a formidable song with Rangel exposing his abilities and gifts as musician. "Grace" is the following piece; of warm charm and radiant amusement, enjoyable lyricism and seductive brightness. "Joie de vivre" is one of the freshest compositions o this invaluable album, filled of invectiveness, breaths spring is commonly used as "curtain" in many TV programs. "Little dream girl" is a pleasant ballad. "map of the stars" is possibly the most imaginative composition of the CD. "Golden" is a jeweled song; full rounded of seductive persuasion and lavish tonal exuberance is certainly another of my supreme choices. "La respuesta" breaths that persuasive rhythm of Latin cadenzas. "One heart calling" is if I may, the autumnal song, filled of nostalgia and visible tenderness: Rangel makes sing the instrument at unthinkable levels. Sentiment and passion are blended magisterially tin order to give us one of his best selections of his lifetime. "All this time" is the most cheerful track of the album, without hesitation. And finally we have this sumptuous nocturnal piece "A house is not a home" with extraordinary rhythmic inflections and vibrant modulations that plainly will justify your inversion.

Don' t miss it! .

I love listening to Nelson Rangell. I always have a few tracks from him on my play list. This was the first CD that I bought of his, and needless to say, I was very much impressed. When I listen to a musician, I don't care about her or his popularity, how "hip" it is to listen to him or her, or how many albums they've completed. All I care about is that the music sounds great, and Rangell certainly does. The man has a talent that is hard to replicate. He is a very gifted, and now I see why he has so many lifelong fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Multi-talented Rangell hits high and strong, September 30, 2005
This review is from: The Best of Nelson Rangell (Audio CD)
I became a fan of Nelson Rangell when I heard his cover of "Let it Snow" on a GRP holiday recording.
I knew he played sax-and very well, but the talent it takes to master two different embouchure. For the unschooled, Sax is a reed instrument, flute is not. The mastery of two is amazing.
His flute playing is full-bodied and very sensual; a quality that remains constant in his playing.
His sax playing, especially on "house is not a home" puts me in orbit. I crank up my monsoon system in my car and let it go. There's a part, near the end, kind of like a sigh that I nearly have to stop the car when I hear it. Have I gushed enough?
Nelson, your talent overwhelms me!
