The finest guitarist currently active, April 20, 2004

This review is from: Best of Nuno (Audio CD)
This album will give you a smattering of what Nuno has been up to since Waiting for the Punchline. His lyrics breathes life into each of his songs, the solos are mezmerizing. None of this music is mainstream, you won't hear it on the radio, but it is some of the best music out there over the past few years. Nuno doesn't write and record to score a popular number one hit. He writes to be true to his art. He is captivating. He is a virtuoso. After this album, you'll be sure to get your hands on his other albums. Nuno Bettencourt is the finest guitarist currently active.

A very worthwhile release from a somewhat lost guitar hero, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Best of Nuno (Audio CD)
This album was a revelation to me. I'd no idea what Nuno had been getting up to and now I know. The impetus for me to buy this album was his tour to Australia in 2005. It's a good thing I did grab this. The only other album of his I own is Schizophonic and it would appear this best of is superior (funny that).
All Automatic blasts out of your speakers and a bunch of the other songs prove that this guy hasn't lost his desire to rock out. There are some weird tracks on this album and it's nice to see that Nuno has used his greater artistic freedom to put out tunes he is comfortable with.
The production is fine, the playing is of course great and the gripes are few. These would be that it does get a touch samey after a while given the number of tracks on display here.
Despite that I'd holeheartedly (sorry) suggest this as a good buy to anyone who wants to find out what this guy has been doing. I'm mean seriously, the bloke deserves respect just for doing something different - and slightly sludgier - than his previous band. Record company execs must of been wanting something poppier and more commercial but instead he puts out what he likes, which is great.

Can't Go Wrong, June 3, 2004

Unless you want to buy Nuno Schizophonic, both Mourning Widows album and his Population 1 album, then this outta give you a great cross section. Expect some heavy htting on the Mourning Widows tracks but not so on the pre-widow's Schizo and the post-widow's Pop1. Mostly likely you will have been teased enough by this album to go back and GLADLY buy the pair you want (regarless of the import cost)or maybe even all 4! For shred and hammering away, Mourning Widows, for emotions go for Schizophonic or Population 1 ~ for a little buffet of it all, this is the ticket, baby!
