5.0 out of 5 stars The finest guitarist currently active
This album will give you a smattering of what Nuno has been up to since Waiting for the Punchline. His lyrics breathes life into each of his songs, the solos are mezmerizing. None of this music is mainstream, you won't hear it on the radio, but it is some of the best music out there over the past few years. Nuno doesn't write and record to score a popular number one...

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't think this is the Best of Nuno.
Nuno is one of the world's finest guitarist and I love his style; however, I don't think this release exhibits much of his guitar flash that I find in his other work. In short, if you're looking for his shred work on guitar, this isn't his best. It may be considered his best in other ways, I suppose.

None of this music is mainstream, you won't hear it on the radio, but it is some of the best music out there over the past few years. Nuno doesn't write and record to score a popular number one hit. He writes to be true to his art. He is captivating. He is a virtuoso. After this album, you'll be sure to get your hands on his other albums. Nuno Bettencourt is the finest guitarist currently active.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very worthwhile release from a somewhat lost guitar hero, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Best of Nuno (Audio CD)
This album was a revelation to me. I'd no idea what Nuno had been getting up to and now I know. The impetus for me to buy this album was his tour to Australia in 2005. It's a good thing I did grab this. The only other album of his I own is Schizophonic and it would appear this best of is superior (funny that).

All Automatic blasts out of your speakers and a bunch of the other songs prove that this guy hasn't lost his desire to rock out. There are some weird tracks on this album and it's nice to see that Nuno has used his greater artistic freedom to put out tunes he is comfortable with.

The production is fine, the playing is of course great and the gripes are few. These would be that it does get a touch samey after a while given the number of tracks on display here.

Despite that I'd holeheartedly (sorry) suggest this as a good buy to anyone who wants to find out what this guy has been doing. I'm mean seriously, the bloke deserves respect just for doing something different - and slightly sludgier - than his previous band. Record company execs must of been wanting something poppier and more commercial but instead he puts out what he likes, which is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Go Wrong, June 3, 2004

Unless you want to buy Nuno Schizophonic, both Mourning Widows album and his Population 1 album, then this outta give you a great cross section. Expect some heavy htting on the Mourning Widows tracks but not so on the pre-widow's Schizo and the post-widow's Pop1. Mostly likely you will have been teased enough by this album to go back and GLADLY buy the pair you want (regarless of the import cost)or maybe even all 4! For shred and hammering away, Mourning Widows, for emotions go for Schizophonic or Population 1 ~ for a little buffet of it all, this is the ticket, baby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nuno Rocks., August 29, 2008

If you liked Extreme, the artist that dominated that sound was Nuno Bettencourt. The songs on this album are less polished but for Nuno that can be a good thing. You get to hear it raw, and hearing is believing.

All of the songs on this are solid. If You like these songs I suggest You get all of his albums since the breakup of Extreme. I was bummed when Extreme broke up. But 11 years, 5 albums and 1 ep later, I can't get enough from Nuno. I don't think any album will ever be better then his work on 3 Sides To Every Story but I think his solo work is better quality than the other Extreme albums. He also does very well with vocals. The only problem You may have obtaining his past work is the ep Sessions From Room 4. As far as I know its out of print now and there didn't appear to be many available either. For me as a fan he has been very consistant in putting out new material within 2 years rather than the waiting many years like other bands. Its also no doubt to me that his work is above and beyond anyone in the late 90's/2000's. Very creative!
The thing about Nuno's work is it usually takes me a few listens to get used to the album but then after that I can't stop playing the album.
As for this greatest...Its a bit over priced but it does have solid songs. For me being a huge fan of him its just to difficult to put together a greatest, especially since there is more to come from this guy. He is far from finished.
My favorites from this album is Air That You Breath, Flow, and Swollen Princess. Again, the others are great as well.
Find this used to save a some dollars but either way its a solid purchase!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars For those who don't now this genius, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Best of Nuno (Audio CD)
Ok .. let me say first that everything the guy makes sounds perfect to me (except for some of the extreme albums). Nuno, Mourning Widows, Population 1, Dramagods ... time and again he succeeds in making fresh straight forward rock music .. beautiful melodies and ... man, can he play guitar. So .. this best of is a wonderful compilation of some of the pieces of art he created. Wanna hear it all? Buy the rest as well! I wonder when radiostations in Europe are going to realise that they are missing something big here !!!!! Oh yeah .., Nuno .. you forgot about my birthday but a new album for X-mas would surely make it up ;)

My boyfriend is a huge Nuno fan and I was unable to find any Nuno in San Diego. I went on Amazon and not only found Nuno but also was able to find Dramagods, his new band, and they came all the way from Japan. I haven't givin the cd's to him yet because they are for his b-day in 2 weeks but I know these are going to be the best gifts ever!
