5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of G.A.S. Rod Could Pass...On. February 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD
The best of the best, the ultimate RS hits platter. Fourteen classic tracks collected on one CD. What a value! Fans would have to purchase all of the previous G.A.S. CDs to capture this music. Also, there is one track never before released and two more with a" can't miss "remix. So, even fans who've collected all the G.A.S. CDs will surely wish to purchase this release.

The music and vocals are simply divine. Perfect for your listening, dancing and relaxing pleasure. My only slight disappointment is the duet with the "Wonderful World" track. I was hoping RS would have included the duet he recorded, through the magic of studio technology, with the late great legend, Louis Armstrong instead of Stevie Wonder. Although, this is a personal preference and not meant as disrespect to SW's talent.

I gather it's being saved for the upcoming 2012 RS project " Rod Stewart Duets the Great American Songbook with all the Late Legendary 20th Century Crooners". Rumor has it that RS will sing along electronically with the likes of Al Martino, Russ Colombo, Perry Como, Matt Monro, Al Bowlly and even Tiny Tim. That CD should be a pip.

Also, I can't wait for the anticipated release, later this year, of Rod Stewart Sings the Great American Show Tunes Live in Concert. I've listened to some bootleg tracks and am particularly fond of Ole Man River (dance remix) and My Boy Bill (acoustic version). No doubt, Rod will showcase these musical treasures in the same classic manner as he's demonstrated with the Standards catalogue.

I'd be remiss if I didn't share with all RS fans, the buzz in NYC, concerning the potential lift off of Rod's cinematic debut. Sources have shared that Rod's in the mix to recreate the role of C.K. Dexter Haven in the remake of the classic 1956 film "High Society", originally produced by the legendary Sol C. Siegel. This project would involve Rod recording the classic" High Society" soundtracks including, "Well, Did You Evah ", " Now you Has Jazz " and "I Love You Samantha ". There are absolutely no limits to Rod's creativity or his ability to provide endless musical pleasure to all his dedicated admirers.
A final note, the "Best of G.A.S. CD cover is very intriguing. Check out Rod's body language, almost daring his fans to pull his finger. What swagger !

5.0 out of 5 stars Rod sings these classic songs so well. February 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Rod Stewart has the ability to take classic songs and make them his own. My favorite track is "What A Wonderful World". Rod is accompanied by Stevie Wonder on this track. Stevie lends his talents playing the harmonica on this song. It sounds very special. "Bye Bye Blackbird" is another gem of a song. It is an upbeat tune with excellent trumpet and clarinet playing. Rod sets a romantic tone with the song "I Can't Get Started". The trumpet playing and piano playing is so relaxing. "These Foolish Things" is another song I love on this disc. This song has a groovy bass tone. The saxophone playing gives this tune a jazzy sounding quality. "Beyond The Sea" has a wistful romantic quality. This song is very pleasant to listen to. The musical arrangements on this song are so good. "You'll Never Know" is a new song to me. It is a song about a special person. This is a song has good background vocals. I love the ooh's ooh's in the background. "They Can't Take That Away From Me" is another song about how the memory of a special someone can linger for a life time. The saxophone sounds cool on this song. I like the track "Time After Time". Rod's vocals are so warm and inviting on this song "Long Ago And Far Away" is a song about how a loved one can change a person's outlook on life. I love the music on this disc. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys easy listening music.

Rod Stewart's renditions of these classic songs from The Great American Songbook are fabulous. His unique sound spices the songs up enough to give you a sense of now with the kind of lyrics that actually say something. Romance is back again with these recordings.
