Pato Banton (born Patrick Murray) is a reggae singer and toaster from Birmingham, England. He began recording in 1982, appearing on "Pato and Roger a Go Talk" (from Special Beat Service) with Ranking Roger of The Beat. He was one of the guest artists that appeared on the UB40 album Baggariddim in 1985. His solo debut was 1987's Never Give In, which included a collaboration with Paul Shaffer. Per Pato, 'From 'Never Give In' to'Life Is A Miracle' my main goal has always been to spread Truth, Beauty & Goodness through reggae music. My life has been an evolutionary adventure of many ups and downs, but through it all I have never lost focus of my purpose. I have been blessed with the gift of Revelation, seen and been a part of many miracles, but nothing compares to the beautiful personalities I've met along the way.'

While I'm knocked out by Pato's new "Destination Paradise" set, I thought I'd catch up on some of his classic tracks. "Don't Sniff Coke" bounces joyfully & is hilarious as his voice goes high for his mother's voice. Sting's "Spirits in the Material World" is transformed into a new hybrid with the lovely chorus vocals lifting the beautiful arrangement. "Never Give In" is an anthem to determination with the title sung with a cast of thousands. "Roots, Rock, Reggae" is a signature song that has aged well after 20 years. "Bubbling Hot" with Ranking Roger propels itself into your consciousness with marimba spicing the track. Eddie Grant's "Baby Come Back" sounds like a retro blast. "Stay Positive" is a cheerful track to lose your blues. This Virgin collection covers 1988-1996. It is an incredibly strong set. Enjoy!
