The contents of this CD are great. I haven't heard all of his songs, but I love his singles. The rest all seem to be great so far. For audiophiles out there, the sonic quality of this CD is mediocre. There is a slight amount of dynamic compression (audible and visual in waveform view). Compared to most current "remasters" this compression is pretty mild, but it is there. There is also a noise reduction. If it had zero compression and noise reduction I'd give this CD 5 stars. Otherwise, the overall frequencies balance of the music is decent. The bass lines are clear and balanced. The noise reduction would probably go unnoticed by most, but it is the one thing I wish they hadn't done. It really takes away from the depth of the reverbs and atmosphere of the audio. I usually add a light amount of treble to try and compensate just a little and bring back the details. However, you can't restore noise reduction just by adding treble. Overall a good CD filled with great songs. I'd recommend his CD Paul Davis: Greatest Hits from 1994 for a close "master" recording quality, however it is missing some of these songs, specifically "cool night", which is my favorite... :-/

Anyone who knows Paul Davis knows how good he was, so I will not attempt to say anything regarding that. I feel a five needs to counterbalance a one given by another reviewer. Granted that this contains many edited single cuts, but THANK GOODNESS for that. The album cuts are easy to get. The single cuts that made most of us like this guy in the first place have been MUCH tougher to get until now.

Paul Davis was a talent that made alot of hit music back in the 70's thru the 90's. Cool Night is just one perfect song, and then followed by other smashes like Ride Em Cowboy make this a must have...sounds really nice in the car on long drives....this is a keeper!

I am a product of the 50's and 60's, and have many records and CD's from the Carpenters to the Beach Boys to George Strait to John Williams, etc. After hearing Cool Nights on the radio recently, and remembering it from back in the 70's, I decided to find out who sang it. So I came across Paul Davis, and decided to buy this CD through Amazon. The more I played the Best of Paul Davis, the more I connected. Now, I consider it among some of the best of my vocal collection. He's truly a talented man.
