I agree with one of the other reviewers that there are conspicuous absences of some important artists in this collection...he mentioned Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes; you could add the O'Jays, Barry White and TSOP to that list. But there may have been licensing issues, so let's give it a pass. You may be more interested in some of the hard-to-find and seldom-heard nuggets you'll get here (BTW, they are all the original recordings, not like another collection I got a few years ago where they were all re-recorded and just terrible). You'll get Joe Simon's "Drowning in the Sea of Love"; Blue Magic's "Side Show", about as soulful a tune as you'll find; The Manhattan's "Kiss and Say Goodbye", New York City's "I'm Doin Fine Now" and my personal favorite, William De Vaughn's "Be Thankful for What You've Got". It's a pretty tight package here with no strays; a worthy if hard-to-find CD if you like the old Philly sound.

BTW, those interested in Harold Melvin or the O'Jay's might check out "The Essentials" collections on both artists. You get full-length, original recordings of all the important tunes.

Talk about Soul Music With Feeling&Power Here it is.The Words&Music Here Bring So Much Joy&Emotions.that is what Great Classic Quality Music will do for you.this is a Great Introduction To Some of the Many Important Artists that were Associated with The Philly Vibe.A Must Have.

An album with an old school groove. Some of the best are here but where is Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes? Well with some noticable gaps in the "Best of..." this album is a good starting point and well complemented by the Huff and Gamble Box Set that Amazon offers. Blue Magic's unforgettable Side Show (a song for the heartbroken if there ever was one), the Spinners, the Manhattans, the Tramps and the Delfonics all on one album make it a worthy buy. Now if the labels could just get together and come up with a Philly Version of the Hitsville USA box set that Motown has it would complement one of the most creative times in one of the greatest cities.
