Book Description

Pointless Conversations: The Best of Issues 1-6

Packed with cartoon laughs, stupid ideas and the utterly ridiculous, this compilation of extracts from the first six issues features the best of Pointless Conversations, as well as some fresh material. The hand-picked topics discussed by the two loveable idiots involve:

Is Superman a cowardly alien? (taken from Superheroes)

Is Back to the Future's Doc Brown a time travelling psychopath? (taken from Doctor Emmet Brown)

What is an ionising bulb, and does it actually harness the power of “awesomeness”? (taken from Lightbulbs and Civilisation)

The “evil” Maid Marion, and is a fish in the neck, funny? (taken from The Expendables)

Is it really dangerous for pregnant women to sit down? (taken from The Fifth Element)

Is using the toilet on Star Trek's Holodeck, bad for your health? (taken from The Big One)

1.0 out of 5 stars Started a new collection on my Kindle... August 18, 2012
By Tara
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started a new collection on my Kindle just for this book and others like it.
Collection name...Not worth Reading.

I didn't laugh. Most of the time I didn't get it. I felt like I was standing listening to other peoples "you had to be there" jokes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Agreeing with AuntieSash June 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I totally and fully agree with AuntieSash. I read her review before I bought this book and I'm pretty much saying the same thing as her except for
she rated it *** and I rated it **** [three stars and four stars] the book IS pretty silly but I really wish it was longer.
I have to give you a warning though. LISTEN TO THE TITLE!!! if you don't want to read a POINTLESS book, DON'T!!! but I overall really like this book; it's funny!

I got this as a free kindle giveaway, and unfortunately, I felt as though this was a classic example of the audience not entirely being matched up with the medium. This was a sort-of comic strip in Kindle format that was a sampler from six longer “issue” versions of the piece.

I felt like this was definitely geared toward the 16-21 college-aged mindset that is essentially a poorly executed Dave Barry-like column in a different medium that is for an audience with an attention span that responds well to one giant page of text and a big comic repetitive on every page save for a change in facial expression of our two protagonists. It is everyday philosophy of the young-set musing on exactly what the title says - “pointless conversations” - so essentially I was walking into something that was advertised from the outset.

I do wonder, though, if the audience that this is geared toward is not entirely in need of this piece. Don’t they have conversations about this on their own without it being written down? Is it necessary to document the pointlessness of some conversations, or is there some inherent need for more randomness? It reminds me of several podcasts that I have listened to on recommendation that are just two hours of nonsensical rantings by young drunken “philosophers” saying very little of anything. I unsubscribed and never revisited them, even though I gave it a shot like I did with this piece.

Yes, it is the best of pointless conversations, but who says its bland, narcissistic everyday intellectualism is worth the time it takes to read it? It’s not for me, and I wonder why it needs to be recorded in this medium for posterity when there are many other mediums that, while I do not like the content, do it better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all that funny August 25, 2012
By Andrew
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are very few times that I laughed while reading this. Much of it was rather boring, and some parts were just crude. I guess the title was right. These really are pointless
conversations. They just aren't that funny.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be funnier January 1, 2013
By Tim
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It seems to drag on and on through the most boring parts. If it were a British sitcom (I.e. the IT Crowd) it would undoubtedly be much funnier, but alas that humor formula just doesn't work well in book form. If you want a great random stick figure cartoon series look up Cyanide and Happiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars Random... May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Fairly random. Too short. But funny and silly - in a random way. I'd like to read more. Knowing the characters over time would make it funnier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty funny. May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Pretty funny quick read. Made a laugh a few times. After reading this "best of" book I am going to look into the full length books.

The format fit the kindle perfectly, and made is fun and easy to read.
