As with The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash and many more, I first heard '500 Miles' on the radio. In less than a minute I thought,"WHO are these giys...?!" The song jumped out of my radio and my foot and butt were moving without giving it a thought...wow.REAL music--pure emotion, energy, and so needed in the world today, JOY, unabashed joy. The boys harmonies are so clean, their songwriting interesting and well crafted--except for a couple of duds (I never liked 'King of the Road'--even when it was a hit 40 years ago) the CD is packed with pretty songs and upbeat mood-changers. I bought it for '500 Miles' (the louder the better!)and have played that song at least once a day for the last week or so, but there gems all over this CD. You can't lose!

As Matt Lucas puts it on the CD jacket: it makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me generally euphoric. This is an awesome collection. If you are not already a fan, you will be. The mix is perfect. I got so hooked. I own all of their CD's, but this one makes it easy to hear it all in one place. The notes these guys hit and the harmony they achieve is unmatchable. You will laugh, cry, sing along and smile a lot. You won't be sorry. From "Letter from America" to "Let's Get Married". You just can't get enough.

Proclaimers Neither Gone nor Forgotten,

Scottish folk duo and twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reed hit pay dirt with their newest "Best Of..." CD. Rediscover all the brothers staggering songs again in this newly remastered compilation guaranteed to leave your toes tappin' and your head boppin'. Key tracks include "Letter from America," and of course their top 40s hit from "Sunshine on Leith" (and more popularly the 1993 film "Benny and Joon") - "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)." But, some of the best songs on this CD are the lesser-known tracks such as "Throw The `R' Away," one of the duos earliest songs and a defiant boot to the music business, which claimed they would never make it singing with their thick Scottish accents. This isn't a greatest hit CD, so the pair have a valid excuse to include four new tracks including a bizarre cover, "The Doodle Song," a rocking version of another Scottish singer, Frankie Miller. Not to be missed is another cover, "King of the Road," which the twins had recorded for an Australian film way back when. This is rock and roll at it's best!

My best friend is obsessed w/ the Proclaimers, and when I listened to this album I found out why. It's honest, unabashed, and upbeat. It has lovely melodies and touching lyrics, especially "Sunshine on Leith." I recommend this to everybody- It made me a fan in a week!

There are 20 tracks here and while the brightest of the Proclaimers songs are here they are mixed in with some of the real stinkers. Several other tracks from Sunshine on Leith were far superior to the Lady Luck or their rendition of King of the Road. You would be better off purchasing the two first albums "This is the Story" and "Sunshine on Leith" then buying this muddled compilation...

Excellent Collection - Worth the Money,

This review is from: The Best of The Proclaimers (Audio CD)
Of course, everybody knows the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)," and rightfully so. But this "Best Of" compilation is much more than that. The 20 tracks on this wonderful CD give the listener a well rounded sample of the Proclaimers' harmonies, clever writing, and soul that are not often heard in popular music today. From the excellent cover of "King of the Road" to the heartfelt tribute to their father in "Act of Remembrance," this Scottish duo is, in all liklihood, one of the best kept secrets in the overpopulated world of music. Trust me. I know these things. :)

This is a fantastic album. My sister bought it and I instantly fell in love with it--simple lyrics, often humorous, and a funky beat you can dance to. I especially love "I'm On My Way" and "500 Miles" and.. well, all of them! I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves good, upbeat music.

This is an excellent collection of some of The Proclaimers best music. Starting with Letter From America from their first album to the new songs, Doodle Song, Ghost of Love, and Lady Luck recorded just for this CD, it is a wonderful compilation of Craig and Charlie's GREAT music and lyrics.A great range of music styles, lyrics about real life with absolutely raw honesty and great wit, and the fabulous Scottish accents makes this an experience you will always enjoy.

I'm 51, and a rabid Beatles fan. I never expected to find another CD that would captivate me the way "Hard Day's Night," "Magical Mystery Tour," or "Sgt. Pepper" could. This one comes bleeding close. This music is upbeat, well-rendered, happy, engaging...everything music should be. To my shame, I'd never heard of The Proclaimers until one night I watched BBC America's 'Graham Norton' show, on which The Proclaimers were musical guests. My wife recognized the song '500 Miles,' and seemed to enjoy it so much that I bought her this CD for her birthday. As she listened (and danced, and sang) to it, I became hooked. This collection is easily worth twice the price. Anyone with music in his or her soul will love it.

It's a popular truism that everyone has a favourite Proclaimer and personally I've always fallen firmly into the Craig camp - however lets all just agree once and for all that they were a fantastic duo who made great music and leave it at that. No more fighting over this please.
