4.0 out of 5 stars Almost a Five Star
With a group as talented as Quicksilver, it is hard to do a "Best of". Almost every song they recorded could be arguably included in a collection claiming to be "Best of". For instance on this CD, where is "Calvary?"
Of course, "Fresh Air" and "What about Me?" are there but "Happy Trails" (always good for a smile) is not.
This is still an album of GREAT...

1.0 out of 5 stars Give This A Miss
The be all and end all for Quicksilver is the 'Happy Trails' album. If you aren't familar with QMS, BUY THAT ALBUM. It's as important a part of the San Francisco moment as Big Brother's (Janis Joplin) 'Cheap Thrills', Moby Grape's first album, or Jefferson Airplane's 'Surrealistic Pillow'. The other big group was the Grateful Dead, but try to pick one big album from them...

This is still an album of GREAT music. If you love that 60's Bay sound,it will thrill you with music you may not be terribly familar with. Still you may be intimate with Quicksilver and find it is enjoyable to listen to without owning the entire catalogue. You won't go wrong regardless.

Not long ago I have heard about Quicksilver from a couple of bios of The Gratful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and other bands form the Bay area. They are as good as I thought the were. So is this album... Great messege from The Messenger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quicksilver's Best, November 23, 2008

For Quicksilver fans like me, this album has many of their best songs - Who do you love, Fresh air, others. I have the others, but this has the range of Cippolina to Valenti influence on one album. This is a good first QMS record to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Quicksilver for most listeners, January 2, 2012

Quicksilver Messenger Service / The Best of QMS: I enjoy QMS and have all of their best (Sixties and Seventies) albums on CD. As much as I enjoy them, it has to be said that they never made a `masterpiece' album, mainly because their albums had a few magnificent songs, several good songs, alongside some mediocre offerings. This was the case in every one of their releases. Therefore, for the average music listener, this Best Of CD is really all they need to get. This CD really does give you all the Best of QMS. Even through I have their best early group CDs, I still have this Best of CD when I want to hear them without all the filler. As a hits CD, it deserves 4 ½ stars, but I give it Five Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars underrated group, April 18, 2011

One of the best bands from the "classic rock" years yet they failed to get the airplay that other groups of that genre got.
Some real good tunes and just about all their big hit. Well worth buying if you dig classic rock and roll.

Excellent collection of old songs from a very innovative group. Classic songs still resonate today with power and relevance. I can replay them a million times and still get that great feel good feeling like it was back then.

The other big group was the Grateful Dead, but try to pick one big album from them (I like their 2nd effort 'Aoxomoxoa' just because it's where you can first hear their sound evolving and because it was released about the same time as these other albums). Hey, I was buying this when it was new, and these were the albums everybody had.

If you like 'Happy Trails' then try 'Shady Grove' and then the first Quicksilver album. Then forget it. That's all the good stuff. This compilation is a really bad idea; you get no sense of the band, you miss the flow of music -- this was back when it was vinyl, remember, track sequence was really important -- I love this band. If this compilation was the first thing I'd heard, I wouldn't have even listened to their other albums, and that would have been a shame.
