4.0 out of 5 stars I really liked and miss the music from Raydio
I wish that I could get a copy of my favorite Raydio album, "Rock On",1979, on CD. Is that possible?

1.0 out of 5 stars ?
I don't know who puts these greatest hits cds out, but most of them are missing essential grooves. "Hot Stuff", and "Rock on" are absent off of this, so I wonder when those cuts will ever turn up on a cd?

5.0 out of 5 stars The cream of 70s & 80s r&b!, June 14, 2007

Ray Parker Jr was one of my heroes in my younger days and after having this on cassette for years, I'm so pleased to finally have it on CD. The album showcases the man between 1978 and 1985, when he produced some of his best work with his group Raydio and then later on as a solo artiste.

I remember fondly how I found the smooth r&b of songs like "You Can't Change That", "A Woman Needs Love" and "Two Places At The Same Time" always totally infectious and so, so easy to sing along to. I also remember how the theme tune to the movie "Ghostbusters" jarred with the rest of his music that I'd grown to love at the time but I heard those now immortal words: "There's something strange, in your neighbourhood/ Who you gonna call?" a couple of times and I was soon won over.

I also loved the fact that he would slip in the occasional instrumental tune, some of which we used to actually dance to at parties. To a budding jazz lover, this was simply heavenly. Sadly, only one of those, "For Those Who Like To Groove", is featured on this album but it doesn't really matter. It's still a great collection. Parker never quite crossed over to proper jazz-funk on any of the albums I have but he did go on to work with people like Earl Klugh and Herbie Hancock on some of their best work so as far as I'm concerned, his jazz-funk credentials are impeccable.

This is another great example of how good music was made back in the late 70s and early 80s. Parker's music was always sensuous but he also always kept it clean, with the focus more on love than on sex. There are a number of other Ray Parker Jr compilations out there at the minute and this particular one is currently premium priced but in my opinion, it's worth every penny. The cream of 70s & 80s r&b!
