4.0 out of 5 stars Best Reasons To Buy This Album April 6, 2005
Format:Audio CD
The Benevento Russo Duo have been constantly expanding their musical horizons as well as their talent. In a Jamband scene full of 5, 6, and 7 member bands, the B.R.D. seem to do just fine with an organ/synth and a drum kit. Best Reason to Buy the Sun starts off with a Techno beat happy song called Becky which is sure to get anyone to nod their heads in enjoyment. The next few songs on the album follow the same abstract jazzy weirdness. Some songs on this album probably will only sound good with help from various drugs (9 x 9's trippy melodies). Scratchitti may be the only song I can't listen to on the album. There is a strange overdrive put on the organ and sounds like some heavy metal song although there are even points in this song where I can say I enjoyed in the slower sections. The last song, My Pet Goat, uses a drum machine to create fast techno beats in contrast to the soft piano Benevento plays on, while making melodies on the organ. For a good time go see these guys in concert, it's a great show, or, for relatively cheaper, you can buy this album and hang out in your bedroom. I highly suggest buying this album for fans of Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Phish, or Sound Sector Tribe 9. I belive this is the start of a great new Duo.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Magic of Two November 5, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Organ and Drums, that's it. Well that, a few effects pedals and some amazing drum programming make "The Duo" one of the most notable acts in music today. Best expierenced live, the Duo captures the energy of their live performaces on Best Reason to Buy the Sun. Becky & Sunny's Song stand out as masterworks of melody and groove.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Duo August 23, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Joe Russo and Marco Benevento are quickly becoming indie/jazz/rock infusion legends! With only a set of drums and an organ, most songs on this CD could easily be part of a soundtrack to any movie. Never mind there are no lyrics-it's not something you even notice(and believe me--instrumentals are not really my cup of tea--but Benevento/Russo managed to change all of that!). Best Reasons takes you on a wild ride from head-bangin'hard rock to mind-altering acid jazz to groovin' blues and beyond. Favorites include "Becky", "Sunny's Song" and Scratchitti. Never heard of "The Duo???" YOU WILL.

2.0 out of 5 stars better live act then on record August 19, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
what makes this duo good is the simplicity of the set up...drums and keyboards. This is a band that attracts musicians more than casual listeners.

"Becky" is the best track.

I saw them live and they were more interesting then good. The music is more background music, with a tribal sound, then anything else.

What makes them interesting and different also gives them limitations. There is only so much you can do with this set up. Ask Medeski, Martin and Wood...which blows this band away.
