Is this really the best?,

The best of Ripley's Believe It Or Not or so the label says.Well, all I can say is if a tattooed man, followed by another tattooed man, followed by people that like to jump fences etc is the best, then I'm glad that I didn't watch most of this show's episodes. There is one shocking scene of a man that lost most of his face, but nothing remarkable otherwise. I remember the original show which was much better than this newer on. That original version had far more substance where as this show is more of the sideshow tent variety. Not worth the money.

Having seen occasional episodes of this TV series, I can say that this DVD will give you an average sample of what several episodes will offer, minus the ads. Thus, it will mainly be of interest to those who can't catch the regular broadcasts. Probably, you will find some stories cute, others amazing, and still others disgusting. There are 3 novel impractical but artistic ways of dressing women, several daredevil cycle riders, several stories of pets doing things normally only humans do, and two stories of guys eating or drinking through their nose. There were two major surgeries to correct extremely rare medical conditions, a gang of young Frenchmen who jump and climb things around town, a couple of stories of natives doing their dangerous rituals, and a professor who turns corpses into sculpture. Perhaps you will enjoy seeing trials of several experimental non-lethal methods of subduing people, and "roller man", who has roller skate wheels attached all over his body so he can skate in just about any position.

Not sure about "best of" / questionable content for kids,

I used to be a huge fan of Ripley's t.v. program, and my 10 y.o. recently began buying the Ripley's books from the school book fair or renting them from the library. So when I began b-day shopping for him and stumbled upon this DVD, I knew he'd be thrilled to receive it.I was aware that, being Ripley's, there would be some graphic content involved. But my son is pretty mature and seeing as he's looked at many Ripley's books, I knew that the oddities weren't going to freak him out. And I don't worry about him being stupid or crazy enough to attempt the stunts. What I didn't realize until we watched it yesterday was that there would be several episodes devoted to things that were sort of questionable, in a semi-sexual nature, for him to be watching. SPOILER ALERT: One was the lingerie airline, one was the body jewels that "covered" certain female body parts, and two were types of body painting. So, there was quite a bit more breast action going on there than I would've guessed. Don't get me wrong - there was NOT any outright nudity, per say, but a lot of semi-exposed breasts and women wearing next to nothing. I wouldn't NOT buy the dvd based on that if you think your children are mature enough to get past that, but at least now you have the warning that I never got. :) The other reason why I'm giving this a "3 Star" rating is that, although the dvd was pretty entertaining, I think it's quite a stretch to call this the "BEST OF" Ripley's. I know they've had far more unique and entertaining bits on the show. Also, even though the stunts are cool to watch... if I wanted to watch stunts/daredevils, I'd rent a dvd devoted to them. To me, Ripley's is all about oddities and unique circumstances, and I wish that the dvd had been composed of the best of those type of items.
