2.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Ronettes Review
There were only a few songs that were familiar. I didn't like the majority of the other songs.

I thought since this was suppose to be their greatest hits that I would be more familiar with the songs on the cd.

This comprehensive compilation of The Ronettes contains their best known hits and more.
After their initial success and Ronnie's marriage to Phil Spector, The Ronettes output decreased as Phil wanted to keep Ronnie all to himself.
With this disc we can all now marvel at the incredible collaboration that was The Ronettes. The rich voice of Veronica Bennett, supported by her sister Estelle, and cousin Nedra Talley, mixed with the genius of Phil Spector and the 'Wall of Sound', singing numbers penned by such famous Brill Building writers as Barry & Greenwich and Mann & Weil, these girls could do not wrong for three glorious years.
As well as the classic hits, 'Be My Baby', 'Walking In The Rain', 'Baby I Love You', etc. this collection encapsulates their mid sixties output, including soaring numbers such as 'So Young' and "Why Don't They Let Us Fall In Love' originally credited soley to Ronnie in Phil's attempt to make her a solo star.
What is most exctiing about this collection are the later efforts which never made the charts. 'I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine', 'You Came You Saw You Conquered' & 'Everything Under The Sun' are soaring pop operas which epitomise the fully developed grandeur of Spector's production and the richness of Ronnie's amazing voice.
Whilst a few missing numbers, such as their pulsating cover of The Beach Boys' 'I Can Hear Music', would have made this collection definitive, this is currently the best compilation of the sounds of the most exciting of all the 60's girl groups.
Can't recommend enough.
