From the Capitol years...,

This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Made in USA in 1999, Serial# 72435-21097-2-2, Playing Time 38:37This CD is a compilation of material of his early solo years, up to the "Street Machine" album, plus track 3 from a single first issued on album on "Rematch", plus track 8 from the 1992 14-track compilation "The Best Of". This disc is like a re-issue of that 1992 album, but is missing 4 tracks, while track 1, "Red", is actually from his early self-titled album (and not "live" as stated on the CD, and not remixed as it appears under the other compilation). Nothing from "Danger Zone", his last album for Capitol records, and nothing from his 1st solo effort, "Nine On A Ten Scale". Overall, a fair compilation of his early solo work; track 8, a re-make of the oldie "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay", which I dislike, seems completely out of place after the smokin' song "Trans Am". I honestly don't recommend this to anyone because it's a little short: go for the alternative 14-track version of "The Best Of" instead, and/or the "Unboxed" CD, which covers the Geffen years

From the early sammy days, After Montrose, pre-warner brothers, years away from Van Halen,

This is a compilation of songs of the early sammy solo years, the real "red rocker" years. Included in this collection is his song "I've done everything for you", which rick springfield re-did on his album in 1981 and made a hit of...It's still sammy's song. I was not as familiar with his work from this time era since I grew to know him during his 80's run and with Van Halen, but this is a great album to have to complete his time post Montrose to pre-warner brothers days (albums like 3 lock box, Standing hampton, VOA Etc). Check it out, affordable, great for the sammy collection. Get this with Unboxed and the red collection, a 3 disc collection that almost completes sammy...pick up montrose's greatest hits, you have it covered.

Should be titled Worst of Hagar,

Sammy never had an ear for production. This selection of tracks has Sammy's fingerprints all over it. These songs share the horrible sound mix where every instrument sounds like it was captured at a low volume with the mic resting on top of it and lacking large room ambience. There must be a guaranteed payout somewhere in a contract for Sammy. Release any album for $X regardless of sales. Where are all of the best tunes? This is for the fans who have everything. The ultimate collection of his worst material on one disc. A side note, in his recent autobiography Samy mentions not being able to get anyone anywhere, including his home SF Bay Area stations where he was already loved, to play "Sittin' by the Dock of the Bay" when it was released. I am pretty certain it was for no other reason than being one of the worst covers of all time.......mediocre karaoke.
