5.0 out of 5 stars fresher than the air i breathe
finally santo and johnny have come to cd!!! for years i listened on my fathers scretched and crackily albums but now the power of the dreamy steel guitar is in my hands and on cd with crisp clear sound and all the modern age has to offer. this cd is a throwback to the begginning of rock and roll during its begginnings in the 1950's
i will warn you that this cd...

2.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
The only reason I bought the CD was for Sleepwalk. That's the only legitimate top 10 hit on the CD (at least for Santo and Johnny). The rest of the songs are ok, but pretty much a repetition of the same sound.

i will warn you that this cd has time traveling ability and from the first reverb filled note, you will be yanked back to a more simple musical time that catches this wonderul band before the surf era. this hard to find cd is one valuable find for me, the avid eclectic collector.

5.0 out of 5 stars A revisit to the Jukebox melodies of the rock n roll 50s...., September 22, 2002
This review is from: The Best of Santo & Johnny (Audio CD)
A great dynamic duo in the 1950s popularly known for their steel guitars. This album is a ideal blend to complement with my Wurlitzer Mini CD Jukebox Bubbler... the dreamy guitaristic tunes from All Night Diner, Sleepwalk,Teardrops, Venus and of course Blue Moon ... et al ... gave significant credits to the 50s ...I had a made a tremendous effort finding the exact album in Singapore, and I had finally found them in Amazon ! Thanks Amazon !!!

This is really laid back stuff. Interpretation of 'Summertime' is absolutely superb. After years of hearing crackly old recordings from Mum & Dads vinyls this is truly a 'must have' CD if you're into 'Sleepwalk' and 'Teardrop' from Santo & Johnny. Many good tracks in their style. And to think these recordings are from before I was born!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Magic, March 29, 2001

Santo & Johnny are most famous for their romantic standard Sleep Walk, written by the brothers along with their sister back in 1959. There is a scene in the Stephen King movie Sleepwalkers where the main antagonist, a goodlooking high school psychopath that is transformed into a blood drinking cat-like creature in the night time, is sitting in his room looking at a picture of the girl he is in love with while writing her name on his arm with the help of a knife and at the same time listening to Santo & Johnny's Sleep Walk. This hard-to-get cd contains 23 early pre-surf-era songs filled with steel guitars and reverbs that will make you spell bound forever. This is pure magic. Perfect for romantic moments with someone you care for. In other words, perfect music to make out to. Or, for the losers among us, perfect music to sit all alone in your room and be unhappily in love to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally found them!, May 30, 2001

Sleep Walk and a couple of other Santo & Johnny cuts were at the top of my list in the late 50's. Have had a hard time running down their albums in recent years. Thanks, Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smell the salt in the air; hear the crashing surf!, June 24, 2005
This review is from: The Best of Santo & Johnny (Audio CD)
I've been on a 50s rock & roll kick as of late and bought The Best of Santo & Johnny after remembering I loved their tune, "Sleep Walk." Well, I just popped it into my CD player and it's a great album! I love the slide guitar or steel guitar and the early "surf rock" sound. Who knew these two brothers from Brooklyn could play such mean "surf rock"? Highly recommended!

In browsing Amazon.com, I was disappointed to see that not a one of Santo & Johnny's original LPs is in print on CD! Their music deserves to be heard and I'm glad this CD is around so I can mellow out/swoon to their awesome music!
Thanks Stardust records and thanks Amazon.com!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's 1959 and 1960 all over again, August 28, 2005

Santo & Johnny -- the Farina brothers -- enjoyed a little more than life's obligatory 15 minutes of fame -- maybe a couple year's worth of DJ plays of their steel/rhythm guitar instrumentals. Now, thanks to "The Best of Santo & Johnny," the 15 minutes continues nearly a half-century later, with 24 tracks led, of course, by their biggest hit, Sleep Walk. Nothing they recorded that charted isn't here. And, with two dozen tunes, there's plenty of Santo & Johnny's "non-charters" to enjoy as well.

Having bought the single many years ago of the wonderful "Sleep Walk" with it's flip-side "All Night Diner" (well it was the flip-side here in the UK,not sure about over there in the US)- which incidentally I still have - I was truly knocked out by the beautiful, and at the same time exciting, sound of Santo and Johnny. This CD of "The Best of.." shows that they still sound great even after all these years.
Some of the slower more dreamy/romantic tracks are truly beautiful, and with a glass of wine in your hand and the lights down low, will send a shiver down your spine.
A truly superb album. Treat yourself you will not be disappointed.
