1.0 out of 5 stars I'm Disappointed.
I was soooo excited to get this home and play it because I grew up listening to these cartoon segments every Saturday morning! But it bored me. They just weren't as good as I remembered them, I guess. I ended up fast forwarding through most of it. I paused for the classics "I'm only a Bill" etc, but I didn't seem to recognize most of them anymore.
If you're...

5.0 out of 5 stars Schoolhouse Rock Rocks my house!, October 15, 2002
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This Video has most of my favorites - Conjunction Junction, I'm just a bill, you know them. It's amazing that in 25 years no one's been able to top them.
I wonder how many high school seniors know as much as a kid who watches these videos about history, science, grammar, and math. I prefer DVD, but whatever.
My kids watch it all the time. I like it too. The songs are as fun. These clever rhymes are unforgettable, but unlike some annoying kid's songs, you don't really want to forget these.
I really feel like my kids need to be informed about the Bible too, (whatever they choose to believe later), so I have also been thrilled that they made a CD and DVD called
Scripture Rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars This video was GREAT!!, November 6, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
`The Best of School House Rock' video was rockin'. My mom bought it for me because she remembers all the songs from the 70's and loved them too. The video covers different subjects such as History (No More Kings, Mother Necessity, The Great American Melting Pot), Anatomy (Them Not-So-Dry Bones, Telegraph Line), Grammar (Unpack Your Adjectives, Conjunction Junction, Verbs: It's Whats Happening) and Math (Elementary My Dear, Figure 8, 3 Is A Magic Number). Although I am 14, I enjoyed this video and have memorized some of the songs and sing them all the time. I think everyone should buy this video- any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great trip back in time!, December 19, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What a great trip back in time! I purchased this tape for my young nieces and nephews convinced that "School House Rock" would prove to be a fun and easy way for them to learn about key U.S. historical events, elements of grammar and basic mathematics. The arrival of the tape triggered a flood of memories. The words to my favorite episodes, "Conjunction Junction", "Verb" and "Bill" begin to spill forth as if I were eight years old sitting in front of the television captivated by the music and colorful characters that make up each episode. Well, I had to open the box and play the tape, just to make sure there were no manufacturers defects (O.K., so that's what I told myself as I excitedly opened the package that is to be a Christmas gift for the little ones). After getting through a series of Disney advertisements, I was greeted with images and songs that were a critical component of my childhood. I soon found myself singing along and acting out parts. I was surprised at how much I'd remembered (had learned) and how entertaining the episodes are. All of a sudden, I'm making long distance calls to friends reminiscing, singing, laughing, and being young again.

This is a perfect gift for kids. Anything that makes learning so much fun that the student doesn't know he's learning is worth remembering and passing on. I didn't fully appreciate how much I'd learned from "School House Rock" until I was well into adulthood. The music rocks, and the lyrics are superb. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Watched Video In Our House, October 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an awesome video, I think every household with kids should have it. I have three kids, ages 8, 6, and 3 and they all LOVE this video. They are learning the words to the catchy songs and don't even realize they are learning history, grammar, math, and my oldest now knows the words to the Preamble. The songs are as fun as I remembered, and I am delighted that my kids love them as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars School House Rock still rocks!!!, November 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am purchasing this for my 5 year old because I believe it will be a a wonderful introduction to a variety of subjects he will learn in school. I also remember watching them and how much they helped keep me keep my conjuctions and interjections straight as well peak my interest in the workings of our government at an early age.
In response to the reviewer from Caldwell, New Jersey, on the subject of "No More Kings": I think you are expecting way too much from these short little cartoons. The idea behind them is not to give all the facts on a specific subject but to get children interested in learning more about math, science, grammar, history and government. I believe School House Rock can be a valuable tool in this respect. To expect a collage of cartoon shorts to take the place of structured learning is a sad mistake. If one child goes to the libray to learn more about the Revolutionary War, these videos will have done the job.

My kids love this tape. I'm amazed at how these songs hold up year after year. - Conjunction Junction, I'm Just A Bill- those are the best but the others are good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Tricks Still Work, January 8, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Best of Schoolhouse Rock! - 30th Anniversary Edition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this several years ago for my sister at Christmas, and heard it was fine. But just reading the list of videos that are on this tape, I see them flash right before my eyes. Therefore, I feel perfectly qualified to review this product for you. I don't quite know what I would have done without Schoolhouse Rock. Well, maybe not Grammar Rock, although those were some of my favorites ("Conjunction Junction, what's your function?"). But I know that when I come up against a problem in my adult life that forces me to multiply an odd combination, like 13 and 7, I immediately go back to a skater telling me "Now here's a chance to brush up on your new math tricks, 'cause 8 times 12 is the same as 10 times 8 plus 2 times 8...80 plus 16, 96!" And when the MSM has me totally discombobulated about what's happening with the law that was supposed to be passed last year about the Hossenpfeffers not killing off the Bellywhackers, suddenly I find myself singing to myself "I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill..." and I remember the process. And how long it can take! (Now, you have to understand, teachers for babyboomers took special classes on how to make history and civics as boring as possible. So Schoolhouse Rock and Little House on the Prairie were our only exposure to what our past was like. Accurate or not.)

These videos are timeless. All kids can benefit from learning about multiplication and grammar. All kids in the US can benefit from learning about incidents in history such as when women got the vote ("Oh we were sufferin', until suffer-age!") and the signing of the Declaration of Independence; as well as how our tripartate system of government works. Whether you buy "The Best of Schoolhouse Rock!-30th Anniversary Ed." for your kids, or just to reminisce, I think you will enjoy it.
