Very Good Schubert "Sampler" ... At A Nice Price, Too, August 15, 2007

At the time of this writing, the Naxos classical CD label is celebrating its 20th anniversary. And what a great 20 years it has been. Naxos is widely recognized as the best BUDGET classical label, period. But they are far more than JUST a budget label. Numerous recordings have received high praise from all the top critics, including the Penguin Guide, Classics Today, Gramophone, and BBC Music Magazine. On this CD, a fine sampling of the music of Franz Schubert is presented. Some of these full recordings I own, so I can tell you without a doubt that you will not be disappointed here. A good assortment of his chamber music (String Quartet No. 14, the wonderful "Trout" Quintet, and the Adagio from his famous String Quintet---marvelous!) Also, two of his Symphonies are represented, as well as some wonderful music for solo piano, especially the beautiful Impromptu in G-flat Major. This is a very good Schubert "sampler". After tasting this, you just might want to get the full recordings of all of these pieces. I recommend them all!
