Carlos Lyra - one of the best..and the most forgotten,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Best Selection from 1959 to 1963 (Audio CD)
What happened to Carlos Lyra? Does anybody care? "Influencia Do Jazz" is a gasser, and "Coisa Mais Linda" is rendered much faster here than on "The Sound Of Ipanema" with Paul Winter, still one of my favorite early bossa records. Lyra made the famous "first tour" to NYC, but disappeared off the radar completely (around these parts) after recording with Winter. The man deserves to be remembered better. Three stars only because some of this material seems rather haphazardly put together. PLEASE check out the stuff with Winter, and get into one of the best vocalists to come out of bossa. I do see some recordings lately, but something must have happened in the 60s.
