This third installment in the series finds single mom Wanda Nell Culpepper struggling to cope with a multitude of family issues: Her oldest daughter, Miranda, doesn't seem willing or capable of taking care of herself and her little boy; Wanda Nell's son, TJ, is happily settled in a relationship but not everyone in Tullahoma looks kindly on the arrangement and to top it all off her brother, Rusty, shows up out of the blue. Wanda Nell hasn't seen or spoken to Rusty in years and it doesn't look like he's come home to mend any fences. When two of Rusty's former high school buddies are found dead it appears to be too much of a coincidence to Wanda Nell ... and to the authorities. Unable to turn her back on her only brother Wanda Nell sets out to discover what Rusty is hiding and in the course of her investigation uncovers some truly ugly and dangerous secrets from the past.
As with the previous books I enjoyed the small town setting and catching up with Wanda Nell and the rest of the gang. The "mystery" was pretty engaging but wrapped up in a rather unsatisfying "suspect round-up" reminiscent of an old-fashioned English country-house mystery. Don't let that deter you though; this book is worth reading for the endearing characters and southern atmosphere alone. If you are new to the series you are on to a good thing but I would highly recommend that you start with the first in the series "Flamingo Fatale" - that one gives you Wanda Nell's backstory and each book picks up where the other left off.

A Sample of Southern Fun,

Readers get it all in this book: mystery, chic lit, southern stereotypes at their best, a quick and easy entertaining read, and heroine they can't help but love. Wanda Nell's got problems. Her family isn't exactly functioning well and she strains to hold it all together. Then her estranged brother suddenly shows back up after a 10 year hiatus. And he's acting kinda' strange. Wanda Nell is determined to get to the bottom of it. And she gets more than she bargained for.
This is the perfect book for a rainy weekend or a week at the beach. Lucy Adams, author of Tuck Your Skirt in Your Panties and Run and If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny

The life of Wanda Nell Culpepper takes on another complication when her brother Rusty shows up in town. He is a wannabe songwriter who has been living in Nashville, and he has been out of touch for years. He is back in town in Tullahoma, Mississippi, stirring up trouble. He has had confrontations with several local men that he knew when they were in high school. He is obviously dredging up something from the past, but he refuses to give any information to Wanda Nell.
Now one of the other men has been beaten to death, and a second man shows up dead. Rusty disappears, and Wanda Nell has been threatened and told to keep her nose out of things. Wanda Nell cannot be intimidated, particularly when her brother is missing. There are the usual side issues with family. Miz Culpepper's cousin Belle shows up in town (a woman who can speak her mind without saying much). Some characters continue is the series, including Wanda Nell's neighbor Mayrene (with her shotgun), and some new characters are introduced. Wanda Nell is still working two jobs.

I love this series. The writing is good and the characters are well-formed and interesting. This story was very mature and well crafted. A very sophisticated cozy. Only the cover gives it the cozy feel. More, More, More.

Just like a slice of America Pie. I think this book represents most of America in a rural setting. Love it really.
