There's a really large percentage of weird and unease in this particular group of stories. A 3.75 average only, a little under the Year's Best Mark, but there is a 5.Charles N. Brown's roundup of the year is a bit longer, and a bit less snarky, so more interesting and more useful. So enough to creep this into the just over 4.25 get to round up to 4.5 score. Something of note is that Hubbard and Herbert both passed away, and SF bookselling was doing very nicely, with the hardback thing coming along. Actually three Australian stories in the recommended reading. A Tooth For Every Child, by Damien Broderick. Shatterwrack at Breaklight, by Terry Dowling, and The Fittest, by George Turner. Not a bad effort. I have still never seen 'The Gods Of Mars' by Dann, Swanwick and Dozois, also listed.
